I have both. My big sister is my Matron and my really good friend is my Maid. What exactly are their duties and how do I get them to split them? My sister lives out of town, by the way.

i think it depends on you and your wedding. for me, i didn't have specific duties for them, it was what they wanted to help with. so far they threw me a bachelorette party and shower. they've both offered to help with wedding things (even my moh who lives out of state) but i've declined, as i don't have a job right now so i feel like i can do it on my own, but i've already told them i'll take them up on that help the weekend of the wedding because i'm doing my own flowers and we'll be stuffing favors (homemade cookies). i guess their only other duties are of course to buy their dresses and accessories, if you're not doing that for them.

since one of them lives out of town, i would leave it up to them to see what's easiest for them to do. my sister had done a lot from oot, she planned my whole bachelorette party, she helped plan my shower, and she randomly bought my hair flower for me.

I agree with Artbee. It is up to you.  As for showers and parties really whoever wants to throw them I'd say let them.  As for the wedding tasks, really they are there to help you the day of the wedding with getting dressed and holding your flowers etc.  You might ask them to help you with projects like invitations or party favors.  But what I've found is it is easier to just get it done myself.  It is too hard to get people together to do these items.  Everyone is too busy these days!
