Hi I am the maid of honor for my close friend and college roommate. I have put together a speech for the reception this saturday and I am looking for a little feedback from anyone who has an opinion or suggestions! K is the bride, J is the groom Here it is, thanks!
Hi everyone, it’s great to see so many people here to show their love and support for K and J. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is ___ and I first met K during our freshman year at _____ College, which was over 6 years ago now!
K and I have made a lot of memories together throughout the years. From the classes we rarely attended to dance dance revolution parties. From the parallel parking lessons outside of ____hall to the many card games in the quad. From our lunch dates in the cafeteria to the road trips to BWs. From the superbowl parties to the numerous broken cell phones we both suffered, it is always great to reminisce with her over our college years. But since graduation, our memories have changed, we live further away from one another, and being “real adults” (hmm mmm) has limited our time together. However, although we are now in a long distance friendship, K has always been just a text message away and our friendship has continued to grow. I love this girl more than she probably knows and feel so blessed to have been to able to stand next her on her wedding day. However, this is not supposed to be about K and myself…so about J…
Well, I don’t know J nearly as well as I know K, but with as beautiful as she looks right now I can at least say that he is a lucky man! And… J, well you clean up pretty well yourself. Really, I mean that. Actually J I was thinking I owe you a bit of gratitude. As one of K’s partners in crime, I have to say, you becoming a part of her life was one of the best things that ever could have happened to ME! Once the two of you started dating she stopped going out with me so much and that saved me from some of the inevitable trouble we would have gotten into, so thank you for that! But all kidding aside, I do know that J is a really great guy. He loves, cares about, and supports my best friend in every way. He’s great guy and he works hard to make K happy. Many of you have seen this lovely couple interacting with one another for quite some time now, as have I and I think you’d agree with me when I say that it just feels so right, they work together. The fact that J still wanted to marry K after living with her makes me think two things 1) you knew what you were getting yourself into bud and 2) that it really confirms that J loves K for everything she is, so for this I will overlook his one major flaw – the fact that he’s a Michigan fan. J you are now married to one of the most honest, caring, and beautiful women I know – congratulations and please promise me that you will keep that smile on her face!
Some famous person once said “The road of life twists and turns and no two directions are ever the same. Yet our lessons come from the journey not the destination.”And I think it’s safe to say that the two of you have had quite the journey together so far. You have faced those twists and turns together, courageously and with love, bringing you here today. I know, first hand, that neither of you would change the path that you have chosen. It is very apparent to me how truly and honestly the two of you love each other and I am very happy to be a part of your lives. Congratulations on your beautiful wedding and without further ado – let’s raise our glasses and toast the lovely couple – J and K, I hope that your road continues on forever and your party never ends. Cheers!
Also, I realize that saying “bud” sounds very strange, but all of the friends who will be there as well as immediate family know that we call each other that all of the time, so it is somewhat of a joke that most people will recognize
