Hello Bees. I’m trying to gather info on this topic and have not found very much useful info on phila.gov or anywhere else. Have any of you successfully done this name change or attempted to? What problems if any did you run into? By searching threads I’ve seen some Bees in different states have had problems with this particular type of name change. I’m really hoping it will not be as difficult. Do you have any advice as to where to start this process?
So has anyone from Philly changed or planning to change their name to First Middle Maiden(as a 2nd middle) Last(no hyphen)?
Ex. Jane Ann Doe to Jane Ann Doe Hancock
Thanks Philly Area Bees!

@BlissBound: I haven’t started that process yet, but I’m in Montgomery County and our county’s webpage said that a marriage license from Montco can be used in any county in the state and vice versa. So I’m guessing the rules about names are the same statewide and you could try searching other than just Philadelphia’s website? Maybe the DMV would know?

The name change is done by the SSA first, which doesn’t depend on the state. A state should take the name that you get on your new social security card without question. I know that some do fight over it but legally, you will be known by your name on your new SS card even if they don’t let you have that name on your driver’s license.
