Sugarbee711, one of my friends got married in York and had a similar situation; I can’t remember the name of the bar we ended up at, but it was actually part of the venue. It was nice, had live music and had a nautical theme. I’ll try to find out the name of it for you, if you’re interested. The other option is renting a house in York Beach and having the party there; we partied all night long. 🙂

We live just outside of Boston but we wanted to do a vacation-style wedding where we rented a house for a week and got married on the property. We ended up going with a place in upstate NY but this was a serious contender for the whole shebag:

You have to rent the whole thing if you’re having a wedding but they’ve got a wonderful event space, plus everyone can stay the night at least (helloooooo reception).

@Sugarbee711:  the biggest issues are usually coming from the renter. They want to make sure their property isn’t damaged, any additional cleaning costs are covered, the number of people isn’t going to overwhelm any septic systems, etc.

We didn’t need to get any sort of permit to have our wedding at a house.
