I have an awesome hair stylist who does my highlights and cuts and is wonderful. I, of course, asked her to do my wedding hair and she happily agreed. She recommended a friend of hers that does makeup (She also works at a salon so it’s not like she’s some random girl). She raved about her, saying she’s amazing at makeup.
So- I called the girl a couple weeks before the holidays – we played phone tag probably 3-4 times. The last time, I called her and never heard back. Ok – chalk it up to the holiday season. I called again on Saturday – and still…nothing. I even left her my email address in case that’s an easier way to communicate (and it is for me due to my job).
At this point, I want to get my makeup artist booked (a little less than 5 months to the wedding), especially because it’s a holiday weekend (day after July 4) and I know people sometimes go away. What do I do? Tell the hair stylist that her friend isn’t responding (I have my hairstylist’s cell phone #)? Or just book someone else completely?
I know my hair stylist would never recommend someone un-reliable but this lack of returning my calls makes me feel that way – and that makes me nervous! It’s been at least a month since I received her contact info.

@weatherbug: As annoying as it is she is really doing you a favor- she obviously doesn’t care too much about her business. When hubby & I owned a store we were checking e-mails and voicemails at least once a day even on our honeymoon. Romantic- no! But you have to do what you have to do to bring in income & keep your business afloat. I’d say she’s showing her true colors of how she might behave in a busy situtation. I would happily move on and find another artist…
One wedding coordinator I really loved did the same thing to us. I tried contacting her over a month’s period with multiple voicemails, e-mails, website contact submissions, and facebook messages. After a month with no responses I finally thought- what the heck am I doing? I don’t want to be doing this for the next _months at such a stressful time!! I contacted her one last time to let her know that I was no longer interested in her services & why… got a snarky e-mail back saying she was on vacation- for a month- and to cut her some slack. Glad I didn’t book with her after that!

Just book someone else. Don’t tell the hairstylist because she would probably say something to the makeup girl and that’s all a little juvenile. Just find someone on your own who’s responsible and reliable. You’ll thank yourself later.

@BeckyS0: I HATE snarky replies!! I had a vendor send me one of those – and a total lie as well. We rented tables/chairs for our rehearsal dinner (bbq at my dad’s) and one vendor kept saying he’d send me a contract then never did (I emailed him 2-3 times). I sent him an email to let him know why we chose another company, and his excuse was that he and his wife had just had a baby and he took two weeks off. I just felt like this was a lie, so I did a little detective work (facebook stalking!) and they clearly have a baby that is 8 months old!!! No newborn in sight. What a jerk.
@IzzyBear: Ok ladies, I think you are right (and I think I knew the answer already, lol). I am already emailing/setting up a trial with a girl I contacted this morning – that’s the type of service I like! I don’t want to have to chase someone around for their services – they should be accomodating me and trying to get my business.
