I’m new to this board so hello!
I’m having a crisis with my dress, hair and make up. Not sure I like any of them 🙁
I had a make up trial recently and I’m not sure if it’s ok or not. I never wear more than a bit of mascara, eyeliner and lip gloss so it’s hard to look at myself and be objective. I have no idea if I look cute or clown like!
So as none of you know me I’d appreciate your advice. Brutally honest answers would be appreciated thanks!
Oh BTW I’m not a girly girl, my dress is a quite simple, silver, grey evening dress. Pic below:
… and here’s the hair I love but I think I maybe need something a little more ‘loose’
Finally I’m 43 so no spring chicken which is probably why I’m avoiding frills 🙂
Happy for opinions on eveything!
Ohh P.S. I will be getting my over exuberant eyebrows plucked for the big day plus (probably) eye lash extensions…

I like the lipstick colour in your makeup trial, but the eyeshadow is all wrong for you. The inner corner is far too silvery. It wont photograph well at all. I would also go much lighter on the lower lashline with colour. Not that you are anywhere as mature as Meryl streep, but if you notice how fresh her eyes look without a lot of makeup underneath.
You also need more foundation to even out your skin tone. It looks as though the foundation the makeup artist used might have some spf in it because you have a bit of a whiteish cast to your skin. I highly reccomend Makeup Forever HD foundation… photographs great and is flattering on most skin types.
Overall i would probably tone it down and make it a little more understated like the attached pics. Sometimes less is more.
if you want something more smoky this would be a good option. Just stay away from frosted eye shadows like the silver in your trial

I feel like the eyes are too much as well – I do get where the makeup artist was going with it, because of your gorgeous silver gown and glam look, but I think either toned down eyes and a subtle pink or nude lip would be perfect. Even a red lipstick could work for this.
I would suggest a primer, a good base foundation that works with your skin tone and texture and then more pink blush! I like the lipstick, but would go for a less frosted one if possible. I found this pic too that I think would work for your eyes…check out the how to as well: http://bridetas.blogspot.ca/2011/06/perfect-your-bridal-make-up-look-la.html

I can’t tell if your eyeshadow and lip color is frosty or not. Maybe it’s just the flash? I would definitely steer clear of frosty colors because it causes the lip/eye color to settle into fine lines.

I hope you dont mind, idid this quickly on my Taaz (private) profile, to demonstrate what it would take me a few paragraphs to describe.
First, you have gorgeous eyes-and I would use a pink/brown shadow and line your upper lids with brown pencil. Slightly smudge under the eye with Brown.
Use hilighter-on your cheekbones and inside the eyes.
Rosey, neutral makeup for you, as you don”t want your makeup competingg with the dress. As you are not used to wearing a lot of makeup, wearing too much will look and feel unnatural, and as you have dark hair and blue eyes, I think the BIGGER pop would be actually dying your hair slightly darker and cutting a bang, as shown. Also, a simple chignon with braids sitting slightly higher would look nice. Your face shape is oblong, so I would like to see you do a bang or side swept bang with some oomph about centre of your face, to balance your pretty features.
I understand that you probably pull your hair back and cant do a bang-if that is the case, a sideswept would look lovely. I think all the hair off your face, as shown in the pic, is too harsh. I am almost 36 and there is no way I could do that hairstyle…you want something soft, but also something pretty that will frame the face.
The dress is pretty, you can always make it more bridal feeling with a pretty hairpiece that has a small bircage veil attached, and use pearls, instead of crystal jewellry, to give you a classic beauty look.

Wow thank you for all your replies!
I’m kind of glad none of you like the frosty make up as I don’t either. I just figured maybe I was out of touch.
The pics and tips you’ve all posted are really helpful. fivemonthsnotice I can’t believe you went to the effort of doing the Taaz thing. Very helpful! Weirdly I normally have a frings (bangs?). I have grown then out so I could have my hair up. I agree though I think I need a little something on my face.
As for the colour, I’ve been fighting with my hairdresser over that. He wants it darker I wanted it lighter. Maybe he’s right! I’m having it cur and died a few days before the wedding so I’ll have let him have his way 🙂
For the jewellery, I’m not really a pearly girl TBH. Also the dress has crystals on the shoulders so I’ve got crystal shoes to match. I’m having diamantes in the middle of the white roses in my bouquet plus thought about having a few in my hair.
Lots’ to think about!
Should have mentioned that I’ve already bought the necklace and earings fro Swarovski to match the purple element of the scheme:
Silver/grey wedding dress
Purple bridesmaid dress
White flowers with a purple accent
Men in grey suits, white shirts and purple ties.
When I say purple there are multiple toming shades ranging from lilac to Cadburys purple.

@MrsConstable: I thought you looked much prettier au naturel. I love the grey/silver/purple color combo. It will look very chic and posh.
@fivemonthsnotice: < You did an awesome job with her photo!
