I've been going through craigslist to find MUA's looking to build their portfolio or those looking for new clientel with good rates.
I haven't gone through any trials just yet, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Hmmm, I think it depends on what area too. I'm in CA. I'm paying $550 for both hair and makeup. Trials are $100. And bridesmaids is $100 each for makeup only. The person I'm using has also done pageants, models and magazines.
I say, try the trial first before committing to the full amount...
I am going with ALLMADEUP by Vivian Tran and she gave me a large party discount, so i'm pay $300 for makeup and hair for bride. I think this is reasonable (i also looked into other artists who quoted $400 and some at $200). I love Vivian Tran, and she was right in the middle.
in SoCal, i'm paying $250 for day of and one trial makeup run. i got a steal of a deal - she's my FSIL's friend from college and she now works for MAC. she's charging the BMs $75 for day of makeup.
hair is going to be done by the same person who's been doin my hair for years - i have to pay for her plane fare to get to SoCal, but i dont care - small price to pay for someone i trust to make me look "effortlessly" gorgeous. so if we add her plane fare to her fee, it's about $500
but price is just price -how do you feel when you talk to them?? do they "get" the look you're going for? if you're not feelin it with either- no matter how "professional" they are - keep lookin for someone you feel right with...
Thanks Ladies! I'm pretty comfortable with the $200 lady. She's even throwing free airbrushing. I too am located in SoCal and I was really looking for someone in my area. ;D
Thanks for your inputs! ;D
I did a trial run with a lady that came highly recommended and also does tv and film. She was on the higher end and I paid almost $100 for the trial; I was VERY disappointed. So, I'm starting over again with trials. I"ve found a lady in the OC that charges the bride $135 and bridesmaids $65, the trial is $65. Hopefully it goes better than the last run.
I just got back from my m/u and hair trial and am very happy with the outcome. I'm using Jennifer Bullag of Brides Made Beautiful. The trial cost $100 and for wedding for myself, moh, and mob she is charging $350. She works in So. Cal for any OC/SB/Riv/LA brides still looking for a makeup and hair person. Here's the website and tell her Reila sent you!

I paid $75 for a makeup trial. My makeup the day of will be $150. My hair is separate... trial was $50, day of will be $125. That makes total with trials: $400.
I'm in the Los Angeles area. My hair stylist is from my regular salon, but not my regular hair stylist because she doesn't do up-dos. My makeup artist is a professional in the LA area that does a lot of celebrity make-up. She was recommended by my hair stylist. Those make-up prices include optional airbrush application and false lashes. I think I got a pretty good deal, and I'm VERY happy with the work of both.
$200 seems reasonable to me, but the $270 would definitely be out of my budget. That seems a bit much.
I'm just having my the lady that has done my hair and my parents' hair since I was about 8 do it. She did all my updos for proms and events in high school and they were about $60. My hairstyle hasn't changed much since then, and she knows it well. I don't know exactly what she will charge for my wedding if it will be more. She also does Mary Kay and said she would be happy to do my bridesmaids hair and make up as well, and will bring a friend from her salon to help, but I plan to do my own make up. I'm never satisfied when someone else does it, and I think I do pretty well. I'll start practicing a few months in advance.
Guess I'm lucky! I'm in the Smoky Mountains, Tennessee. My make up app. is going to be $35 at a very popular and highly recommended salon near my chapel. My hair will be done by my reguar stylist that I've had for about 4 years. She's doing my updo for free as a wedding gift and only charging me $50 to come to my house and do mine, my mother's, my maid of honor and my flower girl's hair! Good Luck!

How much did you spend/are you going to spend on your make-up/hair?
I have gotten quotes from 2 ladies. One for $270 and one for $200. Both are professional (does magazines, models, tv, etc.), especially the $200 because she even sent me a contract.
I just don't know if I should keep looking due to price or if that's a good amount to spend.
