I will have someone go to the house. I'll be paying about 150 hair & makeup..
I was lucky enough to have a friend who is my hairstylist. She did my hair and all the BM hair as her present to me, which was awesome. She came to my sister's house where we were all getting ready.
I had booked a MUA from the Laura Mercier counter in a department store. Reserving her was free, but both the trial and the wedding day makeup had minimum purchases of $75 ($150 for both). However, the MUA I booked ended up having emergency surgery the week of the wedding and cancelling. I did my own makeup, so thankfully, that was free (well, maybe $20 when I bought a new lip gloss).
Mine is $75 for my hair and $30 for the make-up, and she is coming to the hotel that I am getting ready at!
I will be going to the salon to get my hair done and that will cost $55!
I was always going to do my own make-up until I learned about Air-brush MU from these boards and now I am considering that which is $130 for a trial and day-of!
I'm paying $150 plus $25 travel fee since she is coming to our hotel room.
You brides are getting a great deal. If I want someone to come to the hotel to do my makeup & hair, prices are $200-300! I had found someone to do both for $175 plus a travel fee, but she was already booked for my day.
I have been finding crazy high prices all over, and finally, last weekend I went to a bridal show and met a lady that does hair and makeup for a reasonable price - $125 for hair and makeup, plus I think $10-20 more for airbrush and false lashes - so $150 altogether-ish...then I found out something even better - that that is the trial cost as well, and it's a deposit for the actual day! So the trial is essentially free!
@krissycake- Great find! I have plenty of time, so i think I will keep looking. I'm going to a bridal show in Nov. so I'll keep my eyes open. I really want false eyelashes and I've never applied them before.
@ arizonabride - yes! good luck =) i know i was scouring the internet, but living in orlando, there are TOO many people that do makeup that you don't know where to start! i think that many people come to fl for destination weddings, so there is a lack of local resources in a way - bridal shows are a great way to really put a face with a vendor, which helps (i HATE talking on the phone - much prefer face-to-face)
i am getting mine done at my local salon (that i always go for haircuts, etc). it'll be 100 for hair, 80 for makeup. which is a steal compared to typical new york prices. i think the hair is pricey given it's a down do, but my hair is hard to curl so i guess that's the compensation.
btw have you tried craigslist?
my make up is $30
my hair is free care of my friendor who works on fifth avenue
my bridal party $80 for updo
$30 for blow dry
$30 make up
i negotiated a neighborhood discount from my Upper east side salon, man, I am good
So I will be paying a total of only $240 for me, my maid of honor, bridesmaid and my mom (my Bridesmaid is 15 so her mom will be doing her light makeup )
My hair is $55 each for dry run and wedding day at the salon. I am going there because I have a $100 gift certificate i got for a gift and will otherwise probably not use. I am going to the clinique counter on wedding day(have appt.) I am having 2 dry runs (the first girl isn't available on wedding day) so I have to make a purchase each time.
I'm having my friend do my cut and color and then a friend's cousin do extentions in it and then my friend whose doing the cut and color is styling it the day of. I'm paying for all the products. *The color products come out to be less than $20 each time. The cut, free. and the extentions are about $25-50 a bag. The lady said I'd need about 2 or 3 bags. So total for that day I'd pay around $150 for products.* Since they are doing this and not "charging" I'll probably give them $50 to extention lady and $100 to the other as a tip or donation thing.
My make up.. I'm doing my own. I'll go to a make up counter before to have them do it and see if i like it and buy products if i like.
My BM's hair and makeup. They have the choice of doing it themselves or "tipping" my friend to do an updo for them. The makeup they can sure come to the make up counter with me and get their own ideas!
Good luck!
$85 for hair and make-up but I'm also paying $60 for travel (she has to drive 1.5 hours both ways)....she's charging $40 each for the bridesmaids hair.
I have found that makeup gals at the bridal shows charge high fees, too.
I asked one once why that is. She said the little booth at the one-day show cost her $1,000 so she has to charge high prices to cover her booth and other advertising costs.
WOW! I had no idea booths were so expensive.
So then I asked the bridal gown store for a few referrals and found a great hair girl for $50 including tip. I had to travel to her.
Her travel fee was high. I asked why and she says she misses out on appts when she is driving around in her car. Makes sense. We all have to make a living.

Prices here for makeup & hair seem to be outrageous. Or I just haven't looked hard enough yet. My top pick was already booked for May 1st. Are you having someone come to you or are you going to a salon? How much are you paying ofr makeup & hair?
