@DomesticDiva:  Have you tried the local listings on They have a hair & beauty section. That’s how I found my MUA.

@DomesticDiva: if there’s a particular makeup brand you like, you can also go to the makeup counter at a local department store and see if they do makeup on the side. I love Chanel makeup and the woman at the local Bloomingdales does wedding makeup, she didn’t do mine (I’d already booked) but we were talking about it when I was buying my wedding lipstick.

I went to local bridal websites and got the name of my lady from there.  Also, ask some of your other vendors what that you are using and see what they recommend.

@DomesticDiva:  I went to Sephora at West Town Mall for makeup for my engagement session and was very pleased with how it came out. If my cousin, a MUA, hadn’t flown in for my wedding anyway, I would have had it done there again!

Here are some questions

  1. do you want your makeup done at a salon? venue? house?
  2. do you also want your hair professionally styled?  If so are you having your hair done at a salon? the wedding venue?  hotel?  your house?
  3. do you want regular make up or airbrushed make up?
  4. do you plan on having your bridal party get their make up done?

The salon I normally go to for haircuts does not have a make up artist on site.  I really did not want to drive around the day of my wedding going from one salon to the next to get my hair and make up done.  I also did not like the cost of in home hair and make up services so I asked around and found a salon that offered both hair and makeup.  I went for a trial and absolutely loved them.  My girls also wanted hair and make up so the salon opened early for all of us.

The airbrushed makeup lasted 12 hours!!!  All i had to do was reapply lipstick and use those blotting clothes to remove the excess oil from my face.

I am not a fan of department store make up applications for weddings.

  1. I dont think they take appointments so you might be waiting in line
  2. you usually have to buy products for the make up application
  3. some of the girls applying the make up look scary….. overdone……
  4. unable to do a trial run….
