The vendor wants me to pay 100% (non-refundable) for the service two weeks before the wedding! I have never used them and only seen reviews online. I am worried. Is this normal?? Will I be sitting waiting for them to show up on my wedding day and they just wont cause I paid them already??
All my other vendors require us to pay the remainder on the day of the wedding.

I’m not sure if this is normal, it doesn’t seem normal … but I think it would be totally cool if you called or sent an email with your concern – tell her you’re just having a bride moment and you aren’t sure how you can guarantee her being there if she’s already been paid in full!

I agree with HumarockBride- I would def. Voice your concerns about that. I would think that you would have the remainder due the day of. It seems a little strange to me that she’s asking for all of it before hand. Can you check out some of her refrences?

Pretty much all of my vendors are expecting payment in full before the wedding date, except make up and hair. My MU artist is coming to me and doing 12 people but maybe your MU artist has had a bad experience in the past. If they do a crappy job or dont show up though, I imagine you’ll have little recourse…

I have a lot of vendors who want full payment before the wedding, but hair and makeup are not on that list. It seems a little fishy to me–the caterer can claim they’ve had to buy your food before the wedding, but that’s not really the case at a salon… I agree that you should talk to them and make sure there’s some recourse. Put <span class=”Apple-style-span” style=”font-weight: bold”>everything you can on your credit card so you at least have the option of disputing the charges if something goes wrong.

I’ve heard of putting down a deposit for hair and makeup, but not the entire amount… For my artist, I didn’t have to pay anything until the day of.

I talked to a few hair/makeup people in my area, and a 50% deposit was pretty standard. I agree with the other posters…the full payment seems like a bit much. Maybe you can arrange to put half down instead? Or at least have them provide you with a list of references before you give them the deposit to ease your mind.

There were red flags before I posted the first thread. They wanted 50% of the payment for the services, BEFORE the trial to book the date! I dug my heels on that one and refused to pay that untill AFTER the trial is done and I am happy…I had not even seen her at that point! Thank you bees for confirming that it wast ‘normal’ for vendors to be paid everything before the day of, especially for hair and makeup. I did speak to her regarding my concerns about having to pay 100% two weeks in advance. It really is my wedding, I wouldn’t want anything to go awry, what guarantees me that she would show up right? She seemed nice and said we could discuss perhaps having 75% paid instead of the 100%, but I am still quite firm about paying the remaining 50% on the day of in cash, they don’t take any checks on the day of, which is definitely understandable, apparently someone stiffed them before.
