I am not from the Bay area, and I know the cost of living where you are is exceptionally high. I lived in a fairly expensive market, and I went to a top hair and make up artist, and I paid $75 per service for hair and make up, so $150+ tip. The pricing your artist is providing for members of the bridal party is in line with that. What she wants to charge you for yours is high, UNLESS she is coming to you. If she is leaving her salon and is spending a half day or so doing your hair and make up and no one else during that time, then her pricing is less expensive than my guy would have charged if he had been booked for a half day for me. Hope that helps!
I am in the Boston area and the highest quotes I got was right around there so it's not outrageous. But there are probably cheaper just as good alternatives.
yes, she is coming to my place and will spend a few hours to do my wedding makeup. Just wondering, how much did your quote quote to you?
That's a common price for a very experienced MUA. I am from Boston area and my favorite MUA/Hair person charges 100 per trial (so 200 to do hair and makeup) and 150 each for hair and makeup day of. I'm not hiring her though because this is way too much for me
@dragonbride: Hi there, I'm in Northern Cali too (SF Bay area) and yes, unfortunately those prices are pretty typical. I had a destination wedding in Mexico and ended up paying a little more than that for my hair and makeup. One of my best friends just got married here and those were the prices she came across as well. One girl was trying to charge close to $600 for hair and makeup for the bride! We literally almost fell over!! In the end, she found a girl she really liked in Los Gatos to do her hair and I ended up doing makeup for her and entire bridal party (I'm not a professional...but have done it for friends plenty of times and have a ton of product). It came out great. Since doing a couple weddings I've had more and more friends ask me to do their makeup for special events. I'm thinking about getting into it a little more - just for fun. If you're in the area, I'd be happy to do a free trail or send you some pics.
Good luck with your search!!
Those look pretty normal for around here (I'm in Sonoma County).
I'm curious what artist you are using and where they are located.
I'm from the Bay Area and it sounds about right. From the price you're disclosing, it appears they're from A list make up. I used one of their MUA for my wedding.
I paid $125 for a trial today and it included the makeup of my maid of honor as well. www.simplybeautifulmakeupnj.com is who contacted. She is only $85 for Bridal.

hi bees,
so I got a quote for this makeup artist that I like:
$100 for trial at her place
$350 for makeup and hair
$75 for bridal party hair OR makeup; $140 for hair AND makeup
I live in Bay Area (northern california), and I am wondering if that is a good price or expensive?
Thanks all!!
