I love Nars - their shades recognize the undertones in skin are different (I think MakeupForever might too) so you can pick shades based in pink, yellow, beige, etc. That's must for me because I have pinky-peach undertones, and drugstore foundation all either made my face look stark white or like I had fake baked only my face.
As someone who is practically clear they're so pale, I can strike MAC off of the list-- all of their stuff is WAY too dark for me. (Also, all yellow-based, so my pinky-blue self looks orange). Chanel and MUFE are the best ones I've found for my paleness. Nars, Stila, Clinique-- all that bidness is way too dark for me.
Shu Uemura has a wide range of light foundations. I've also notice Estee Lauder and Lancome have quite a selection as well.
to steal a title from a book....i was snow white (but then i drifted)
I've never used it but I suggest Shisheido like JoJo Bananas because they are a Japanese make-up company that caters to really pale skin (pale skin= beautiful in asia).
Shu Uemura would probably work because it is a Japanese make-up company too :)
If your undertones are pinkish-blue stay farrrr away from mac. mac looks beautiful on those who have golden undertones but makes everyone else just look orange :p
shu uemura, MUFE, carry many light shades.
There's also 'white' foundation from brands like Yaby and Face Atelier. You can mix it with other foundations of similar quality (like MUFE) to get your exact match.
I agree with babyboo - the colors are very 'yellow' so it does make people look orange if your undertones are not yellow/olive-ish.
Everyone's shade is different and unique and sometimes brands don't carry your custom shade.
I'm very, very pale too - and MAC is not do-able for me at all. I do recommend Shishedo, though, or Chanel.

This is a question for the alabaster beauties out there--my wedding is March 13 in Okinawa, Japan on a cliff overlooking the ocean, and I am doing my own makeup. I have very pale skin and I have realized lately that the drugstore foundation I use is a shade too dark. It's the lightest I found in the drugstore, so I'm turning to the department store makeup lines now. What is your favorite foundation that comes in very light colors?
