So, I’m getting ready to “pop the question”, officially, to my closest friends. I would love to give them something that they can use even after the wedding, and not break the bank in doing so!
I was thinking of puting together a set of waterproof (“tearproof”) makeup. A mascara (a high-quality one, ~$25 ea.), and maybe an eye shadow single or two. Maybe a Naked Basics palette?
All three of the girls enjoy makeup, and two of them are about to graduate and go on job hunts. I feel like they could get a lot out of a makeup palette with some nice neutrals they can use for office looks!
What does the Bee think? Thoughts? 🙂

KittyParker: I am all for this because that is going to be one of my gifts to my BMs for the wedding!!! I think they will love it. I don’t plan on having a MUA for my big day because all of my girls do a great job at their own make up and I plan on doing my own. I wanted them to still wear similar colors so I decided to get them the same eyeshadows and mascara. So glad I am not the only one who thought of doing this!!!

How far in advance are you asking? Mascara goes bad so quickly, you might be better off giving that particular item to them the month of. I would SO be down for a naked basics palette If I were your ‘maid, though!

Sounds like a lovely gift!

KittyParker: I think it could work but I would make sure they don’t already have the shadows. Also, since the Naked Basics palette now comes in 2 shades I would find out who prefers warm or cool undertones and get them #1 (warm) or #2 (cool) accordingly. As far as the mascara, I wouldn’t advise getting waterproof. A lot of people hate waterproof mascara, myself included. I’d probably switch out the mascara for an eye primer to go with the shadow.

Thanks for all the replies, Bees! 🙂
Kendrao: I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought of this too! I really wanted something that they could carry with them after the event, and this sounded better than paying for a MUA to doll them up beyond recognition on the day of.
babeba: That’s a great point! Maybe I can get mini tubes for now, and buy them another round of those the month of? It would cost about the same, but they’d be getting a fresh tube closer to the big day.

Mascara does dry out quickly and tends to be something people are really particular about- I also hate waterproof mascara. I think it would be fun to get a eyeshadow kit. I recently bought coastal scents revealed 2 palette and it is probably my favorite eyeshadow ever. A lip gloss or lipstick set is one of those things I love, but don’t really buy myself.
Another idea is a subscription to Birchbox if your girls don’t already have one.

Also you should probably find out if anyone has sensitive eyes – I can’t wear any type of waterproof eye makeup (eyeliner, mascara) because it turns my eyes red and makes them burn. Maybe an eyeshadow palette and one of the Urban Decay Naked lipglosses? They’re SO flattering.

KittyParker: I agree because at my SILs wedding she hired a MUA and hair stylist and while I was okay with my hair, I HATED my makeup. I didn’t even look like myself and it was not falttering at all. So that is why I decided to do my own and have the girls do their own. I have a few girls who like to really use eyeshadow so I thought if I at least had them use the shades I wanted then there will be no problem and they can do it however they choose.
Great minds think alike!! lol

I would love something like that, but not everyone may. Like I used UD Eye Potion, and my SIL bought it because I raved – and she ended up being allergic to something in it… so no potion for her!
I love Naked2! But the Basics 2 might be something nice, and small!

stephncollins: Thanks for the heads up, I’ll check with them on any allergies or sensitivities. I was also looking at the 3-piece holiday lipstick set Too Faced just released. I think I can match up my girls to them and split the set between them.

This is what I got my bridesmaids. I got them a Smashbox sampler kit with 8 brushes in a travel bag and an eyeshadow kit with four colors. I know I’d love something like that and since they are all just getting into makeup, I’m sure they will appreciate it too.

Love the idea of a little makeup kit, I plan on getting something similar for my girls! You could put it in a cute little clutch!
