@carshlyn: hi there and thanks for the nice offer :-)! actually i am thinking of doing my own make up and was wondering if you had any advice on how to do the eyes, to make them look bigger and but not too dark and dramatic, plus how to make sure everything stays in place during the whole ceremony?
many thanks in advance and happy planning!
Any suggestions for those unwanted blemishes? After I get them they leave spots but it takes a while to go away. I can usually cover them with makeup but any other suggestions? Thanks : )
@carshlyn: Any foundation suggestions? I'm giving Makeup Forever HD a whirl today and I am just not happy with it....kinda sliding off my face. I think I look better when I wear my Maybelline FIT as crazy as that sounds.
This is the one detail that is making me flip out a little. I'm getting close to the wedding date and I've found a MUA, but I'm not super happy about her work and thinking about doing it myself. It just don't want to have to worry about my makeup all day.
@cleve_girl01: I agree. i wasn't crazy about makeup forever hd when I first started using it, but I figured i'd stick with it since I paid $40 bucks for it. It's been a couple of months now and I think it is nice light foundation for summertime, but at the end of the day it kinda wears off. I will probably go back to using Lancome's Tient Idole Comfortable Makeup (14 hour) for my wedding. It's full coverage, but doesn't make you look cakey (a little goes a long way). It really makes you look flawless and lasts ALL DAY. As a matter of fact, i just used it this past weekend becuase I was going to a BBQ and didn't want my makeup to melt off my face. When i got home, it looked as good as when I put it on that morning.
What primer would you recommend? I have relatively oily skin that gets shiny easily, but I also do not like a completely matte look.
@Waves2: What kind of primer were you using under the MUFE? I think that may be part of my problem...I've been using the sample and only have the Loreal primer which seems to be adding greasiness.
I'm going to have to check out the Lancome foundation again. I tried it at one point and couldn't find a shade light enough that didn't turn orange. Darn this ridiculously fair skin! I do use their concealer though, and love it.
@cleve_girl01: I've been wearing MUFHD without using a primer. I only use primer for special occasions (i know sounds kinda lame), but because it's so expensive (smashbox photo finish primer), I kinda wanted to save it for the day of my wedding. I have fair skin too, and before I tried MUFHD I was using Lancome Tient Idole confortable makeup in Ivory 2 C. I love it!! I can wear it year round because I don't tan in the summer, I try to stay out of the sun as much as possible.
@Waves2: Hmm...I'm gonna have to try lancome again. I'm super fair, but also very yellow, which is where the problem comes in. Most really light shades are way to pink. Ah, the search continues. :)
WOW I forgot to request to be emailed on this post.. I thought no one had any questions LOL!! Sorry for not responding sooner :)
@ Zenbride- I would recommend a combination of at least three shadows. My brides usually love a shimmery white/medium pink/gray combo I use. Prime your eye with Too Faced Shadow Insurance (the ONLY primer I use on brides- I've tried them all!) and then powder eyelids to seal in. Apply gray to outer 1/3 of your eye, working into the crease. Then apply the shimmer white to inner corner, apply pink to middle and blend out. To make eye appear bigger, use a black kohl liner (Urban Decay 24/7 my fav) only on the outer corner of your eye in about 1/2 way on top and bottom, smudge out with your finger or a brush. If you want more drama, work in some black to the gray and blend until the cows come home. Don't forget to highlight your brow bone with the white shimmer shadow! If you need a video demonstration, let me know :)
Ah, to make everything stay in place... I release my bridal day beauty secret: Skindinavia Bridal Setting spray. You can get it here: http://www.skindinavia.com/p-5-bridal-makeup-finish.aspx You will LOVE it, I swear. If you don't want to splurge though, be sure to powder and touch up throughout your day. It really helps keep the makeup from melting off your face!
@ Lauren10811- Applying tea tree oil directly to the spots assists in the cell turnover you need to get the skin back to it's original state. You can get some at any Whole Foods Market.
@clevegirl01- MUFE is actually my favorite traditional foundation but you MUST use a primer (I use theirs) AND powder after you apply. It does tend to slide if you don't powder enough, especially if you tend to get oily in the T-Zone. Their product being $40 doesn't help but it truly has shown to be the best in photographs if you can't use airbrush. PS: Talk to your Makeup Artist and let them know your concerns. If you end up losing a deposit anyway, at least she can know her weak points and work on them going forward- I'd really like someone to tell me if there was anything they didn't want to use me for.
@Waves2- Like I told clevegirl, you have to powder with that foundation. Kind of a pain in the butt if you're not a makeup junkie but it will help it last, I promise. Also ladies- the Skindinavia spray in my last post will change your makeup FOREVER- it really works magic. I wish I got commission or something from them for all the product I sell of theirs but the stuff WORKS! Lancome foundation is nice too, it just makes me break out personally.
@deathbydesign- My favorite primer is the Make Up Forever HD Primer- NOT Smashbox which is a cult favorite. All Smashbox is is dimethicone-silicone- which helps old ladies to fill in their lines but makes anyone with even a little bit of shine have makeup meltdown 2 hours later. MUFE's is great, and always remember to powder your foundation so it lasts, pressed powders would be good for you since you don't want a complete matte look, you can pick where you want to press it in :)
Thanks! What are your favorite products to use on brides? I have pretty much the same problem as Lauren, I break out from stress and my skin takes ages to go back to normal. What are your favorite concealer/foundations to use on brides with yellow undertones to their skin? ( I am hispanic and everything I've tried is either too yellow or too pink) I'm really looking for any tips on how to fix the blotchy problem and heal my skin or to cover evenly.
@carshlyn: I tried MUFE HD again with the MUFE primer, and holy cow, what a difference!!! I was sweating moving furniture for like 2 hours, and my face still looked fresh and flawless. Okay, I'm a believer now. :) Thank you for the advice.
@MissPumpkinBarry- Don't kill me, but as an esthetician you really have to start with getting your 'canvas'-your face- ready before you paint it. I'd really try to get on a great skin care regimen before your big day (you have a great amount of time to do this). My problem skin brides are very impressed with Environ's B-Active Skin care range- I've seen the results of their every day use in their facials! If you're interested in that line specifically let me know.
As for makeup products- if you're going for a nude lip my go-to is Urban Decay's 'Naked' lip liner- apply it, fill in your lips with it, POWDER YOUR LIPS and apply again. Dab a bit of gloss on top and voila- it won't go anywhere. A more pinky tone that's great is UD 'Wicked'. Blush I like Well-Dressed by MAC, it seems to look great on every skin tone. Foundations: MUFE #125- #156 are what I use on my Hispanic clients. That's a pretty big range between the 20s and 50s and keep in mind that you may be two shades and not just one. I recommend going to Sephora to find your shade, they will help you do this- but put the swatches on your neck and don't let them wipe them off. Check when you get back in the car if you agree on the shade they picked- natural light changes everything. Concealers I don't have one favorite unfortunately, but my top favs are Lise Watier concealer wheel and MUFE camouflage concealer palette #1.
Whew! Sorry for the long post but I hope this helps out, keep me posted :)
@Clevegirl01- YAY! It's one more step in your routine but the payoff is in the primer ;)
Like Junebug13, I also have very oily skin. Any recommendations for products that will reduce shine but not settle into the lines on my face?
Also, does airbrush makeup work well with oily skin?

Hi!
I'm a bride-to-bee and am obsessed with this website. I'm also a makeup artist and esthetician so I thought I'd just open up the floor for any brides with questions on products, skincare or processes for your big day.
I know there are a lot of women out there that don't want to splurge on a MUA for their wedding day so I'm open to give advice on anything if needed :)
Happy wedding planning!!
