I had my makeup trial yesterday and mentioned the theme and style of my wedding and gave her pictures of Veronica Lake for inspiration (old hollywood movie actress).
Let me know what you guys think and if it feels retro-y/glam enough for what I was going for.
Here’s my before:
And the afters:

For old hollywood/retro glam you will want dark dramatic lipstick. When I think retro I always think red lipstick. You are beautiful btw!

@Miss Tattoo:Aw thanks. I thought so too and I asked her about it but she advised against it since it would get all over the Fiance when we kissed. Plus, I don’t typically wear red lipstick so it might feel out of place for me. I just hope without it, that retro-vintage vibe still comes through but maybe not.

Wow! I think it looks fantastic. If you’re worried about lipstick moving you can always get one of those stay-in-place lipsticks. My mom got her make up done for my wedding and then bought one of those to wear. Honestly, they don’t move!

@sleepyrebel: I agree with Miss Tattoo, actually. When you said Veronica Lake, I was expecting red lipstick and actually did kind of a double-take when I didn’t see it. You look completely gorgeous, definitely, but if you hadn’t said “retro glam” in your post, there is no way I’d know that’s what you were going for in those pics. Is it obvious from your dress that that’s the style you’re after?
Is it posible to find a red listick that won’t rub off on him? Even if it does, I’m sure he’ll get over it. Stash wetwipes in his pockets! I’ve seen brides wear red before and I always wondered about the rub-off, but I guess it wasn’t a huge concern for them? I really don’t know what to suggest.

i think you look great! true what people say about the red lipstick though if you want retro-glam

First off, you are gorgeous and the makeup looks awesom! BUT, I am going to be honest when I say that I do not see “retro glam” in it. It definitely doesnt scream Old Hollywood to me, at all. You cant have Old Hollywood without a dramatic lip, that what the era was about. You can get lip sealer to make the lipstick stay on, thats what I did. Worked awesome.
I would say that, to me, it has a more 60s/mod feel to it. The look says more Brigitte Bardot than Veronica Lake. The 60s were really the era for black eyeliner and a nude/pale lip.

I think you look great!! but I also agree with the red lips…if red lipstick it much for you try a red gloss or a red lip stain so you just get a hint of the red

I think it looks beautiful and glam but not really retro at all. I agree that for retro, you kind of have to go with red lips.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I’ll have to try out some different red lip options and see if I can find one that will stay put and not look too different from what I normally would wear.
@deliciousappleblue:I guess that’s the missing piece, isn’t it? My dress is somewhat vintage-y feeling but I’ll have a brooch bouquet, red heels, and pearl jewelry so it may look retro-y enough without the red lips. I’ll have to explore it a bit.

You definitely look beautiful! But I dont think that the vintage comes across..

Try looking into lip stain- it won’t smear on your man and you can just put a gloss over it. I love the Benefit lip stain, it’s used for cheeks too and looks great
