What towns are you by specifically? For FSIL's wedding we used a girl who works out of a salon in Elgin a few days a week, but has a makeup service independently. She was really good, although she just used tinted moisturizer and a powder foundation on me, I think she has airbrushing for a higher price.
I too am looking for hair/makeup in the NW burbs. I do have a recommendation for you though, I was unable to use them because someone had already reserved my date! :( But it is a brand new salon called Anthony David in Elk Grove. I don't know if thats near where you are, but the salon is cute and they seem like they do really great work, the prices are reasonable too! If anyone else has other recommendations, I'd love to hear them as well. This is my current wedding related search!!!
I am using Hairspray Revolution, they are freelance and will travel to you, and do quite a bit of bridal makeup in the Chicagoland area! I can't really attest to anything as I've not had the trial yet, but at an affordable 70 for trial and Day Of makeup, it's definitely a great deal!
i'm also on the hunt for a MUA too in the chicago area (north shore suburb is where wedding will be).

Check the Classified boards for a Freelance makeup artists in Chicago or NW Indiana. I saw some on there.
As far as makeup goes, airbrushing is much better because the color doesn't fade or get splotchy. It lasts all day and looks great (meaning flawless) in photos. You wouldn't have any reactions to an airbrushing foundation either because they are non-allergenic. The only thing you would need to do is touch up on lips after eating or drinking.
