@kaysbigjump:  bumping this thread…I’m down in Tacoma and am Asian, looking for a makeup/hair artist also.  I’ve been reading lots of reviews, but I haven’t found anyone that has wow’d me, plus no pictures of Asian brides πŸ™

@kaysbigjump:  I also have the double eyelid with the hood part covering part of my eyelid.  Except that one of my eyelids shows more of the eyelid than the other one..lol  Does that make sense?  I’m also Korean, but my skin color is more MAC NC40 and often get mistaken for Filipina.  If I google Korean makeup, only the pale Koreans with the single eyelid come up, and I can’t do my makeup like that!  Beautiful…but not what my coloring is.

I would hate to pay $75+ for makeup and end up hating it, so I will probably end up having to do my own.  I feel you on the skin part..I think that’s one of the things that I’m most concerned about.  I just want my skin to look great, and the other stuff is easy.  I’ve found that Makeup Forever Mat Velvet+ works great with a stipple brush for photos and for coverage.  It’s pricey, but I use it for special occasions or things like Christmas pictures, etc.  I use the #40 color.  There is no sunscreen in it, so you won’t get the ghostly look with flash pictures.  I’m going to experiment with doing my own, plus doing my own hair.  I’ve been a little discouraged with reviews of local (Tacoma) salons and then the Seattle ones either charge too much for on location, or I’d have to drive up there, and back down to Tacoma for the wedding.  UGH.

@kaysbigjump:  Yeah…i wish my eyelids were the same, because one of them is perfect for liquid eyeliner cate-eye look, and the other gets all folded up and I have to be careful.  Plus, if I want to do any kind of blending/smokey eye stuff, it takes a little bit of time to get my eyelids to match.

I think your idea sounds good..if you get a good match to your skin, you should be good..and do lots of trials with flash/no flash.  I love the MAC counter, and generally they’re pretty helpful..or go play around at Sephora as well.

I have gotten a couple of quotes from Tacoma area people, and many of them have 3 person or $300 minimums (UGH), and the others are $100 makeup plus another $100 for a trial.  SHEESH.  Plus if i decide to get my hair professionally done?  With a makeup trial and hair trial, and then day-of’s it’ll run me close to $400!!!  I’m thinking I better get good at DIYing.  At least my hair I want just down with curls…nothing outrageous.

Have you received any quotes for airbrush makeup yet?

I noticed the same thing when I google Asian makeup. PM me the info and I van maybe give you some catering info also. The most frustrating thing was trying to secure vendors. Those vague answers kill me. don’t they want business??? Lol. That happened with my venue…I literally said when and where do I send the deposit…no answer. So I went with a different place.

I’ve just started looking into hair and makeup as well!  I just emailed Pacific Artistry, and heard back from them in less than 4 hours! They’re prices were fairly good, 65$ for bridesmaid hair and makeup, 45$ for just bridesmaid hair or just makeup & $250 for the bride. I thought that seemed a little high, but your trial is included, lash extensions, airbrushing and hair. After looking at other places, sometimes it’s around 170 for JUST hair- not including any trials.  So for some of you, I would suggest checking there! I don’t know if I remember, but they do have add-ons, maybe they’ll do airbrushing only!  another thing noticed while looking through their photos was that many of their brides were very different & they’ve worked on many different people. That’oral ways reassuring as well πŸ™‚

It took me forever to find them, i just put my deposit down today! Their site is sort of weird to navigate. BUT, I was able to find some pictures on http://weddingwire.com/biz/pacific-artistry–wa/ab6511fca8adf9cc/main they have a picture link πŸ™‚ I haven’t checked this place out, but a friend also just suggested urbanistaweddings for hair & makeup.  But yes! The prices for PA have been the rest I’ve seen! & I thought the bridal package was pretty fantastic! It includes quite a bit. I didn’t mention, but they do have smaller/cheaper packages as well! Good luck! Can’t wait to hear what you decide on!

You should check out Fountain of Beauty in Kent (across from the Great Wall Shopping Mall) they do bridal makeup and the girls who run the place on a day to day basis are both Asian (Amy is from Hong Kong). I’m not sure which makeup they would use but they do have several displays of bare minerals in their shop.

I use some of their other services and they have always done a good job.

I haven’t personally used her but she got glowing recommendations from a friend of mine.  Check her out. πŸ™‚
