My mom recently remarried, and I went home to visit her a couple of weeks ago. We were talking about the cost of her ring, which is very similar to the style that I’d like for my engagement ring. I thought her ring had cost at least $5000, but as it turns out, she and my step-dad had it custom designed for about $2500! I decided to casually let my boyfriend know that it was possible to get a ring that I would love for relatively cheap, and how good of an experience my mom has had with that jeweller.
After I dropped my hint, he looked at me and said, very pointedly, “I know what engagement rings cost.”
I started crying and laughing, and we hugged. Then he told me that he figured he better tell me now, because he could tell that not knowing whether he was even looking was driving me crazy.
Since then we’ve had a couple of discussions, like about buying white gold vs. platinum (I originally wanted platinum because of the need for getting white gold re-plated, but he said that re-plating is usually included when you buy an engagement ring). He said he wants to discuss all of the details with me but he knows he shouldn’t, and I asked him to *not* tell me anything else.
I feel like a huge weight has been lifted! My mood has noticeably improved. I just feel so content knowing that things are moving in the right direction. I’m hoping for similar progress for the rest of my ladies-in-waiting!
