    Hi Bees!

Anyone been to the Maldives?  We're trying to tack it on to our honeymoon and have a couple questions.

How did you get there?  So far we're going Paris to Bangalor to Male, taking the sea taxi to Maldives... but just curious what the average route is to get there.

Where did you stay?  We're using Hilton points so we're going with one of the three resorts but I'd love to know more.

If you haven't been yet, are you concerned at all about the pork/spa/booze bans that might go through?  Have you heard any news about this?

If you stayed on a resort, how much did you spend per day on food?  So far it looks like about $100/meal on the cheap side so needless to say it ain't cheap.

What other activities did you do?  If anyone did the private island 'excursion' I would LOVE to hear about it.   :)

    Anyone? Thanks!!!!!

We were looking in to it but then this happened and is likely to get more strict by the time we get around to a honeymoon

they shut down all massage places including in the resorts. Boose and things will follow soon i think

@imalittlebirdie:  Yeah I heard about this, but I also heard that none of the spas at the resorts actually closed, and the tourism board is taking a strong stand against the restriction of alcohol on the high end resorts.  Basically the message I received was that its under review, but the chances of this actually happening are very slim.  Im not that big of a drinker anymore so I dont think a ban on booze would keep me from visiting one of ther most incredible places in the world... but I guess we'll see.

We are planning to be there in late March.  We are looking into 'all-inclusive' package.

Since I will leave from East Asia, I need to stop at either Malaysia or Singapore.  We might do one day at one of those cities.

Since our resort is 'all-inclusive', I will not pack much of snacks.  However, I will strongly advise that you pack lots of snacks since IT IS REALLY EXPENSIVE.  When I went to Bora Bora, I packed; nuts, beef jerky. protein bars, dried fruits, etc.

I would love to dine at the Undersea Restaurant.

Are any of you still going? with all of this political unrest going on? We haven't booked it yet but we were supposed to go :( I'm scared to book it because apparently they have had a lot of cancellations.

I hate to say it but I (just me, here) would probably wait until things are a bit more stable...it's not just the spa/booze bans but the whole sense of unrest I get from what I have been reading in the news. I have a fear of spending so much time/effort/planning for my honeymoon and then having it fall apart at the last minute.

That said, I'm generally more paranoid than most, and I have friends who went there on their honeymoon and they are probably some of the most amazing photos I've seen. So I don't blame you for wanting to go there. I'll get there at some point.

If you do book, I recommend getting really good insurance coverage - with "cancel for any reason" coverage (you have to get it within 15 days or something of booking though).

I too would love to go there, but there is just too much unrest going on. It might be okay, but I personally don't want to chance it.

I think the worst part is that I am willing to chance it! lol and do my best to get the best insurance out there.  I work in insurance.. I insure everything.. even my dog :) lol

Tough to say... I mean yeah there's a lot going on, but we're not heading there until July so hopefully they have their acts together by then.  We have flights booked but not hotel, and the flights are easy to rearrange.  Breaks my heart though!
