We are having a semi – formal wedding, where my bridesmaids are going to be in shorter dresses.
The Groom (FH) wants to wear a custom made tuxedo jacket (color other than plain black) and the rest of the tuxedo outfit.
I am wondering what to dress the groomsmen in? Is it weird for them to be in black suits if the groom is in a “tux”? I dont know if all of the groomsmen need to be in tuxedos, especially if my girls are not in full length gowns..

I think suits. Your Groom will stand out and look fancy (just like you), and your girls and his guys will be dressed similarily.

You can definitely dress them in proper black tie. Your groom should consider a velvet dinner jacket if he’s going to deviate from black/midnight blue. Or, of course, ivory is also classic, though can’t be worn as often.

I’m not dressing my groomsmen in the same level of formality as myself; there’s no faux pas there, at least not in North America. My main reason for that is I want them to spend their money on something they’ll be able to wear more than once, so I’ve asked them to wear grey suits. You could do something similar. What colour is your FH thinking of wearing?

Other than the obvious shirt/bowtie combo, most people can’t tell the difference between a tuxedo and a suit. They’re kind of almost the same. As far as I know, tues have satin (but then again, some suits do, too). It’s totally fine to have the GMs in suits.
