For the baby, you could do a diaper shower...just make sure to find out if she uses disposables (what brand) or cloth. You also can't go wrong with buying new burp cloths, bibs, pacifiers, teethers, sleep sacks, swaddle blankets etc.
For mom, a post-partum massage! Or a mani/pedi. Something that will give her a little "me" time.
@MrsAFPilot: Thanks, those are great ideas!
@sarahbabs: I was joking b/c that is what I am needing right now! But a spa day actually sounds like a brilliant idea, as long as you or someone she trusts is providing childcare. I wouldn't want to use it right away, but it would be nice to look forward to it. Remembering gifts of some sort for the older child is important too, something as simple as crayons and a coloring book.
Gift cards always work - that way she can pick out something new she needs - like a gift card to Target.
My mom's co-workers all went in together and threw money in a card. It ended up being about $110! I was shocked! But we put that towards the travel system we wanted! I know it doesn't seem like it has a sentimental value- but we were so glad that we could get the stoller/car seat we wanted! I am very grateful to them!
@jjmomma: Hmm, that is something to consider, because we are not close enough for me to babysit. Any more easily boxable ideas? :)
@mashka_f1: Unfortunately, there is not an easily accessible Target in the city. Any other places that you think might work?
@sarahbabs: It's hard to know what she really needs, as she could have so much still useable from the older baby. It seems not as fabulous, so to speak, but just the cash might be nice (if there isn't a good store nearby for a gift card). And then make a diaper cake to have something cute as well.
@jjmomma: Okay, I'll keep that in mind :)
Of course, the more suggestions, the merrier!
Do you know what she has and doesn't have? I am expecting my second, and only have a high chair, so I need EVERYTHING! Diapers and wipes are always nice, you can never have too many! I would stay away from clothes becuase that is what everyone seems to buy, and babies grow so fast. I also would not buy any blankets (you always seem to get TONS of those too, and don't use them all. I just found some from my son, who is almost 4 now! :O), pacifiers cuz some people are against them. Bath stuff is nice, for her and baby. Your best bet would be a gift card though, so anywhere around you that has baby stuff. Or I think you can get one off the internet.... Good Luck!
You could get her an amazon gift card.
I just had my 2nd and had absolutely no baby items, it was like starting over from scratch. Do you know where she is registered? You could scope that out and put together a basket from there.
Here's what I'm loving for my 3 week old right now -
Boppy Pillow
Fisher Price Zen Cradle swing (they make a bouncy seat that isn't as expensive and works perfectly too)
Boppy travel swing (for the office)
Dr. Brown Formula pitcher (helps mix formula without all the bubbles)
Newborn diapers we got at the shower are a life saver
Baby Bjorn Carrier
There's more I'm sure but those are off the top of my head

Hello all you lovely Mama Bees! I need your help. My coworker just asked for help planning a work baby shower for our awesome expecting worker, and has no idea what type of present we should get her. Frankly, neither do I! So your advice and expertise would be greatly appreciated!
What would you love to be surprised with if you were about to have your second baby? Her first son is a bit over two now, and I don't know the sex of the new baby. She's due in two weeks, so we'll be having the surprise shower next week. About 10 coworkers will likely be chipping in to buy her something, so anything around $100 would be great, but smaller individual things would work too (I can always make a basket or something).
Any and all suggestions welcome, and thank you so much!
