My sweet love was not quite 6lbs at birth. We did use preemie diapers for a little bit. We mainly used newborn clothes on her, and my husband always swaddled her♥  She has always spent more time in smaller clothes; at almost 20mo, she wears 12mo clothes.  She is also a bit tall.

My little guy was 7lbs at birth and newborn was very large on him.  He wore them almost until 3 months old.  He was able to fit into a couple of premie outfits too (they were on ridiculous sale and my mom bought them for pics).  I’d suggest having 2-3 premie sleepers and then the rest newborn.  Clothes can be big, but you don’t want them to be HUGE.  You can always buy extra and leave the tags on if you are worried about it.  Just means you’d have to wash them after baby comes (not sure if this is a big inconvenience for you).

My little guy was 6 pounds 9 ounces at birth. I didn’t have any premie clothes, but he could have used them for about a month. We were in newborn clothes for a month or two, and then 0-3 months for another 2-3. He grew quickly, but still, starting so little left him lots of room to grow in the small sizes.

DD was 6lbs 7oz and she swam in the newborn outfit I brought to the hospital. But it was from a brand I wasn’t familiar with and I think their stuff must run large. Our newborn clothes from Carter’s fit her well. She wore newborn stuff for at least the first month, maybe month and a half.

Oh, I will say, my little guy was born in winter, but we mostly dressed him in a diaper and a blanket. Occasionally a onesie and a blanket. He didn’t wear a lot of clothes right away.

My son was 5lb 13oz and was born at 37 weeks.

I had nothing that for him so my lovely family went out and bought some premmie outfits and nappies. He actually lost weight and ended up being 5lb 6oz when we left the hospital.

@gpsp2B:  my daughter was 8.9 lbs but we never even used NB clothes. She went straight into 0-3 months so I’m willing to bet NB will be fine

@gpsp2B:  We used consignment too!  We have a lovely one called Mother and Child.  My 7lber was 20inches which is just slightly over average. If you can buy two piece things and onesies, you won’t have to worry too much about this 🙂

The twins were 5.04 lbs and 5.13lbs born in January. Wal-mart preemie clothes fit really weird. Huge neck holes and short length. I’d avoid them.

Target brand newborn was a little big. Gerber newborn sleepers were my absolute favorites. Carter’s newborn clothes fit well, too.

ETA: didnt use preemie diapers. Newborn ones were fine.
