*rolls eyes* so something from 70 years ago cancels out everything? Geesh, he probably won't live long enough to see the divorce through.

*not that I am in any way condoning infidelity, just saying that at 99 years old, 77 years of marriage, and 70 years after the fact, I'd probably forgive and forget.

I feel bad for the man! How horrible to discover that after so long.

Cheating is my only absolute deal-breaker. But I honestly can't say what I'd do if I found out 70 years after the fact!

Weird. Maybe there is a bunch of money involved that the story isn't telling us?

That's also a bit weird that you (as the wife,) had never gotten rid of love letters from 50 years ago!

Cheating and abuse are 2 things I will not put up with in my marriage, no matter how long we've been together.

Very odd in my opinion.  The affair was 70 years ago!!  Don't 77 years of enjoying and building a life together overcome one 70 year old mistake?!?!

That is sad. Why does she still have the letters after all these years?

This artilce claimed that their marriage was rocky http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/99-year-old-italian-man-divorces-96-year-old-wife-finding-secret-love-letters-1940s-article-1.998455?localLinksEnabled=false

So maybe there is more to it than that.

I just posted this same story. I should have known my fellow bees would have already been up on this :-) That was so long ago, really after 77yrs you can't work through this?  I am inclined to say that  based on how I feel now, that would be water under the bridge that has long dried up. But, like some of the PP's said you never know!

I can't imagine going through the motions of a divorce after all these years.  I'm wondering what the children and grandchildren are thinking/feeling.

DH just said "That's dumb.  How is he gonna eat?"

Honestly that would be pretty heart breaking to find out after being with someone that long.

I am shocked and thought after this long, why not just forget it.  But my husband says its still a secret she kept for 70 years and probably hurts just as much as if it was yesterday if not more for lying bout it for that long.
