I was actually thinking about doing this. I mean he spent all that money on the ring and thinking up a proposal and all I just felt like he deserves something too. I was going to buy him something small like a video game and a gift certificate to the driving range or something so he can have something to do while I am wedding planning. =]

The tradition for an engagement present for a man is a watch. Nowadays it’s wrist watches, but in the past it was pocket watches and the chain of which was braided waith a lock of the womans hair.

I was planning on gping the watch route  I’d like to spend below $500 because I’m not sure how often this watch will actually be worn.

@MsAmandaAnn:  If he’s got a sort of rocker style I suggest a Nemisis watch like my daily wear one. It’s a pretty awesome company.

@Sa7208:  I’m getting my SO a Tissot watch for an engagement gift Laughing You said that your SO is pretty traditional so I think that the cufflinks, perhaps engraved ones, might be a great idea. Or maybe a pocket watch, fountain pen, engraved flask.. what is your SO into?

I was planning on getting my boyfriend a nice watch also, but he has an heirloom watch from his grandfather and he loves it and doesn’t seem at ALL interested in other watches. I too want something more ‘forever’ than a nice night out, tickets to a basketball game, etc., but don’t know what else. He doesn’t have a single shirt that he could use cuff links with, but maybe if I got him cuff links he’d get a shirt for them? He’s already got a flask engraved from me for an anniversary present a while back… but yeah, I can’t wait to see what else the bees on this thread come up with for you!

SO and I decided he gets a puppy/kitten but only way down the line when we have space and time for one. We still have the are we getting married or not part to figure out, so it may change and he might say he wants a watch instead, but for now it’s an engagement puppy/kitten.

I bought my FI a watch. I was planning on buying one to give to him as a surprise but I ended up taking him shopping for one after he proposed. He asked me what styles I had been looking at and then chose his favourite. He loves it, wears it every single day and always takes it off before bed and inspects it for scratches. The watch he chose was on sale for around $350, so we were really lucky.

I actually just picked him up a nice new sweater from Levi’s that he can wear this fall. I’ll probably grab him something more special/permanent soon….just not sure what….he already has a g-shock watch he loves

I was going to get SO a watch but he is kind of a connoisseur of watches and I did a lot of research but ultimately decided I don’t have the knowledge or money right now to get him one he’d really love. I ended up buying him a really nice wooden hand carved teleidoscope/kaleidoscope. I like it because the image is faceted & sparkly like an ering. It’s not right for most people but he’ll love it, & it is beautiful enough to be a display piece. He almost splurged on one a year ago, but I think this one fits him even better. Hopefully I’ll be able to budget in a nice watch as a wedding gift.
