Hey did you guys see Nightline last night? The MANgagement ring?! Haha! Hmm ladies... sounds like it's catching on... screw waiting, we can all just cut to the chase and pop the question ourselves!! :-D
Although I guess in the video, they are also meant to be purchased after a traditional engagement, so that your guy can have something to show the world he's yours before the big day. Would you guys ever do this??
I like that concept, I had never heard of it before.
Not sure R would go for that, though. He's not much of a jewelry person, and although he is happy to have a wedding band, I couldn't see him wanting another ring.
There's no way my boy would wear more than one ring. He loves to do construction and work on his cars and he loses EVERYTHING. I'm sure when we pick out wedding bands durability will be a factor, and one will be more than enough for him to keep up with.
Do they look like women's engagment rings? Or just a band?
My fiance's engagement ring is an Xbox 360. lol
Right after FI proposed I gave him a ring I'd been saving for the occasion. It's a gold claddagh set with a small diamond. Nothing too flashy. He loves it. But I am totally going to tell him it's a 'mangagement' ring now, hee!
My cousin does this and my whole family makes fun of him. ;) But I actually don't think it's a bad idea if a guy is cool with it. Mine liked the idea, but didn't think it was worth spending the money on a second ring.
I got my FI an engagement ring because he made it clear before we were even engaged that he thought he should have a ring and show his commitment too.
I'm still intrigued by what these mangagement rings look like. Lol. Post pics, y'all.
Also, would he still wear it on his finger with a wedding band?
I'm dense tonight. Everyone forgive moi. :p
@ fifty: I originally wanted to get D a fancier, engraved type ring (I was also looking at ones with fun art deco designs), but had trouble finding an affordable option. I wanted to mimic the idea that the engagement ring is fancier and the wedding band is, well, a band. I ended up buying him a plain 24k gold band with an engraving on the inside because that's what he wanted. We're still not sure what we'll do for a wedding ring, but I purposely made sure the engagement ring was fairly thin so he can solder the two together after the wedding. I figured it was the best way for him to wear two rings without it seeming like too much man jewelry.
I don't have any pictures but its just a basic brushed titanium 7mm band (it might be 8). He wears it on his left hand but I don't expect him to wear it after we are married (and since it was only $100 it doesn't matter to me).
No photos (hmmm, may bug him for some) but it's just a nice, man's gold claddagh with a diamond set in the heart. It won't be his wedding band, he'll just wear it on his right hand. I think he was chuffed to have something of his own to show off to his friends and co-workers and say "Hey, I'm engaged!"
Actually, that's my one regret from the engagement. I was definitely going to get him a ring and then we decided to elope and the wedding happened much faster. I still wish I had given him a ring though.
I want to get one of the Fabuluster Etsy fingerprint rings (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=29722960) for my fiance, but it won't work well as a wedding ring since he'd likely destroy the silver - he's more of a tungsten carbide sort of guy. However, I bet it would work fabulously well as a mangagement ring. Now I just need to work on that whole "I haven't had a job in two and a half months and can't justify spending $150 on an unnecessary ring" issue.
I got DH a ring before he got deployed and it was his mangagement ring, lol. he wore it in the pocket of his BDUs, though, or on his neck. He said that wearing a ring involved too many quesitons--"are you married?" "no" "why?" <enter long explanation here> so he stopped wearing it
I haven't heard the term "mangagement ring" before - too funny! But my fiance had always wanted a claddagh ring, so I got him a nice, simple silver one for his birthday (which fell a few months before we got engaged). He wears it on his left hand with the crown facing out, and I can't even tell you how much I love seeing a ring on his hand. Every time I see it, it makes me even more excited about our upcoming wedding!
My FI had always wanted an engagement ring. After he proposed to me with a beautiful aquamarine, I bought him a similer ring with a more masculine style. He loves it and is so proud to show off our engagement! It's special for us to have matching engagement rings, they remind us of our love and commitement every time we look at them!
I am impressed with the number of mangagement rings out there. The thought never even crossed my mind!
I bought one for Mr. DG. We called it his boy bling. It was a sandblasted titanium ring and he still wears it sometimes on his right hand. He loves it because it's so strong that he can open beer bottles with it :p
hahaha! i would loooooove to get my man a man-gagement ring. but i doubt he'd wear it. he wears a watch. and that's it. plus, his CEO (he works for a really small company) makes fun of everyone and anything, so i'm sure he'd get a lot of flack for it at work. but in general i am always at a loss buying him gifts....sigh
Mrs. DG: My boy would love that! Maybe I could get him to wear a ring if I used that as a selling point. :) I'll have to look into those if he EVER pops the question.
Uploading a picture....although this isn't technically a "man-gagement ring" yet since we're not quite engaged. However, on our first Christmas together, we did exchange rings to symbolize our love/commitment, particularly since we were long distance (I guess along the lines of promise rings, but we wear them on our right hands). He loves this ring and will continue to wear it after we are engaged (although I don't know if he will switch hands).
It's a Tiffany Atlas ring- I think the design is pretty cool/historic and he loves the way it looks, and apparently it's really soft/comfy on!
A friend of mine is engaged and her fiance is german. He wears an engagement ring, too and says that it's tradition in Germany.
Wow, I really like the Tiffany Atlas ring and I normally don't like tiffany that much.
@cheerful- I felt the same way. I felt ridiculous even going into Tiffany's, but when I saw that ring, I knew he would love it. It's a design based off of the Tiffany's clock in NYC. I tease him because he's the one that ended up getting the "little blue box" in our relationship.
My FI and I both had our own claddagh rings before we were even dating. I remember everything about the moment we discussed turning them around for the 1st time. :)
He's worn his on his right hand for years but I don't think he'll wear it once he's got a wedding band. He's not much of a jewelry fan so I don't think wearing a ring on each hand is gonna fly with him. I don't wear it that often myself since I have my e-ring.
I really like the atlas ring. It could easily double for a wedding band.
Edit: I totally saw the Nightline piece & thought of the post on these boards. LOL
I was thinking about getting my bf and roman numeral ring with our dating anniversary, then get him a band with diamonds for the wedding ring. If I can't find a ring that the roman numerals that I can afford, then I will get him a plain band and then a fancier one with diamonds in it for the wedding.
Arab men wear "mangagement" rings! Popping the question usually happens without rings, which are later exchanged publicly at an engagement party. E-rings are worn on the right hand and wedding bands are for the left hand.
I was so suprised when the man of my dreams asked me if he could get a ring too! He said he wanted to show the world he was taken. I thought that was so sweet.
I am having so much fun shopping for one.........
I bought my fiance a ring from etsy after we were engaged. I didn't think it was fair that I got a pretty ring and he didn't get anything to show for our engagement. He wears it everyday!
memememe. i proposed. i gave him a ring. he wears it all the time. i can post a picture tomorrow!
@vegan: i can't wait to see it! how cool that you proposed!!
I bought Mr. Snuggie a ring (mangagement ring). It's one of his Xmas gifts (IF WE GET ENGAGED!!!). We purchased little gifts for each other and have exchanged these gifts over the last couple of weeks. I purchased two big gifts for him, one is the ring. If he doesn't propose on Xmas, then he'll get the ring after he proposes. I'm old fashioned and can't see myself proposing. I want the entire experience of him getting down on one knee and popping the question. Let's see... here is a stock picture of his mangagement ring. I love it! MANGAGEMENT RING! LOL!!!
Too funny this came up! Times are changing Bees! :) Our firehouse is in the middle of a 6-person engagement (meaning 6 people got engaged and have their weddings within the course of a year)....and all the guys wear the claddagh rings. No one makes fun of them, and myself and the other woman member (also engaged) thinks its kinda cool! You probably wouldnt have seen this 20 yrs ago...
I gave my FI one. We talked about it before hand though. It's nothing expensive, but he loves it. I had gotten it for him to wear on his right hand, in case he didn't want it on his left, but he's worn it on his left hand since the day we were engaged. He likes that it wards off other women! I actually had a hard time convincing him to buy a wedding band because he loves his ring so much.
He would have a fit if I got him a ring. His favorite saying is "I'm a man!" That was his reasoning for me not getting him a gift for Christmas, but I did anyway.lol
