Has anyone given or planning to give their SO a mangagement present? I would love to surprise my SO with a meaningful present but he does not wear jewellery at ALL! I was thinking of maybe a weekend away somewhere but would like to give him something sentimental. Any ideas ladies?

What do you mean by a "management present"?

Is this an Irish/European thing? I have never heard of it!

It took me a minute. I read it as management but I think you mean a "man engagement = mangagment", right?

If you are looking for something material, then maybe a silk embroidered hankerchief. Its not something he would use except maybe for in a formal suit, but something he could put in his drawer for memory purposes.

@lefeymw:  Oooooh, that makes sense, I read it wrong! Thanks :)

@WaitingtoBee:  I like the idea of a little getaway but it would also be nice to give him something material to keep with him. What does he like to do? For example, if he loves to cook, you could get him an engraved chef's knife with your initials, or if he dresses up for work a lot, you could get him some nice cuff-links - something he can keep for a long time and will remind him of you whenever he looks at it.

@caffeiney:  @love108: @lefeymw:  OOOOPS, I should have said MAN-gagement!  I don't think it's strictly a European thing as I've read other bees' posts about getting a man-gagement ring for their new fiancee.  That's my problem as I want to get my SO something but he doesn't wear jewellery.  I realise I'm getting ahead of myself as he hasn't even proposed yet!

I like the ideas of a silk hankie and cuff-links Smile  Thanks Ladies

@WaitingtoBee:  I am not engaged either and I have been thinking about enagement present for my SO so your not alone lol. Yesterday we were even talking about future wedding present to each other. I would say look into getting him somthing he is interested in. My SO loves video games so I am thinking about getting him a top of the line video game chair or an ipad or iphone depending if we get engaged this year. I hope this helps some what.

    @Vegan:

I'm glad I'm not alone! At least we have some time to think about it :-) You have some very thoughtful ideas - I'm sure your SO will love whatever you decide on

MAN-gagement! I love it! But what do you get for a man who doesn't want a watch?

I like the idea of it a lot & I suggested that we go on a trip to China for his MAN-gagement present.  He's really interested in China hasn't traveled a lot. But I doubt we would do that exact thing since my ring will be about $2000 and that's already presenting financial issues, while a trip to China could easily run about $5000. So not only is the price not comparable, but we also don't have the money for either.  It's fun to dream though.  Maybe it would work better as a honeymoon.  I feel like I'm completely fantasizing here since money is tight, but I'm also looking for ideas.  By the way, in the book I do but I don't I'm pretty sure she got him an engagement present too. I can't think of what the gift was but I remember she did her own proposal to him right before the wedding & it was cute.

@LucyLaLa:  A trip to China would be expensive, but a great idea for a honeymoon!  Is that book any good?

@WaitingtoBee:  I really liked the book - there were times it felt a little empty or glossed over, but it was good overall.

I'm making my SO a memory scrapbook of the time we've spent together before we start a new era of our lives together.

I started digital scrapbooking a couple of months ago - mainly to try and keep me sane with the waiting - but I really enjoy it. You can have all the pages you create printed professionally printed and they look really good so that's what I'm going to do!

    Cuff links maybe?

    A watch is always good

A technology gadget like an iPad

    A car accessory

I wouldn't do a trip b/c I'd want it to be something tangible, like a keepsake that he will always have.

I bought him a watch.  I had it hidden in my suitcase on our trip when he "surprised" me with a  proposal LOL.  I was not surprised when he pulled out the ring, but he sure was surprised when I pulled out the watch!  Best idea ever.
