Its not in the KC area but Hannibal, MO is amazing! It is a historic area, where Mark Twain was born and grew up. It would be a drive but i believe well worth it :)
@JenniferDavis: Did you try Red Barn Farm in Weston?
At Lone Summit Ranch in Lee's Summit, MO near Pleasant Hill, MO is somewhat affordable depending on what you're looking for. You must have food and drink for $2400+
Also, Drexel Hall is gorgeous and can accomodate all of those guests! Lot of seating with the option of having the ceremony there too. Also they have the open catering option. I love this venue but it's too spacious for my wedding of 100 guests.
Just attended a wedding at Mildale Farms: http://jcprd.com/parks_facilities/mildale_farm.cfm
It was beautiful, and not too long of a drive, although the couple had buses for us to and from hotel. Not sure on pricing, but the grounds are beautiful, and there is beautiful indoor and outdoor space to work with.
Good luck!

We are in need of a venue still and I'm needing to think outside the box now. Our price range isn't high and we're running out of options. Still waiting to hear back on one place so I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but in the mean time need to continue the search. If anyone knows of a place or even another type of unique outdoor place for 350-400 guests that isn't outrageous please let me know. It needs to be in the general KC, MO area. Thanks.
