I'm getting a mantilla made to go with my spanish style dress and my spanish style venue...I love the way the mantilla looks so far, and it's very special to me since it's made out of the veil my mother wore when she got married.
But the more I think about it, the more I think I want to have the veil covering my face as I walk down the aisle and during the ceremony...so that my honey can lift it to kiss me at the end. Super traditional and cheesy, I know, but I can't help it.
So do I have to pick - traditional veil or mantilla? Or has anyone ever seen a mantilla that also has a face covering? Any suggestions would be helpful...Thanks!
Yes, I've seen them!! I had a traditional mantilla (which I loooooooved) but when I was looking for them I saw some where a second layer was sewn in underneath the lace across the top of your head, which could then be flipped over. I have no idea where I saw them...but I just wanted to give you hope and tell you to keep looking! Or you could always get one custom made - it's REALLY not more expensive than buying a premade one; cost just depends entirely on what type of lace you want! I had mine made by www.sposabellalace.com and if you're in NYC you get a veil fitting too! But I'm sure they'd be happy to work with you by phone or internet if you wanted; and there are a million other custom veil companies too!
You can also wear it so that the mantilla is just pulled up far enough so that it lays higher on your head, thus covering your face. This is usually a more oval shape and is called a drop veil. This is what I am considering. I love the idea of a mantilla.
I am having my mantilla cover my face!!! Yay - another person who might do this!! My AMAZING veil JUST came in YESTERDAY!!! It is a Tony Frederici cathedral length veil and I'm going to wear it over my face - like a drop veil. I had them not put a comb on it - so I will figure out where i want to attach it and do it myself.
For another picture of a person who did this - Katharine McPhee did it - and you can kinda see it in the pictures of her in the People magazine - if you go onto their website they have the picture. Or i have a picture in my knot bio - sarahandandy I will be posting pictures of me in my actual veil sometime soon - if you want to check back and see what it looks like.
I have also seen people who just attach another veil and have it over their face - but just don't love how that looks.
Sorry - one more thing - I also liked the mantilla but wanted something covering my face - like you I wanted the whole romantic - lifting of hte veil thing.
The bridal store thought it was strange - but I don't care - I think it will look nice.
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE those pictures! I have new hope.
For those of you who wore / are going to wear "drop" mantillas (like in the grace kelly picture), how does it work when your hubby lifts the veil? Does he just fold it back and away?
I just googled Grace Kelly and Katherine McPhee and definitely see how it works. I just love it, it's perfect. THANK YOU, you guys are the best!!! (if anyone else has pictures as well, I'd love to see them)
As far as the hubby lifting the veil - yeah - I think he just folds it back like any other veil.
And about attaching it - some people use hat pins. I'm going to experiment with a comb (seeing if it is noticeable - and if it lays flat).... or bobby pins. We'll see what happens. Good luck!
you know whose veil was just beautiful was tori spelling's at her wedding. i don't have a picture right now but it is gorgeous (even though she's a disaster)
I am doing the same! I have envisioned this veil for almost two years, and when I saw that Katharine Mcphee wore it in her wedding (I didn't even know who she was), I was so relieved to finally have a picture so I can show people what I'm talking about! It looks so beautiful!
Then, click on Collections (towards the top). After that click on veiling. If you scroll through the images they it is the second and last ones. Hopefully you can buy from a store near you and if not, call them and see what they can do.
