Me! I picked the venue and am about to sign the contract. Also have an idea of which photographer and make up artist, but haven't booked anything yet!
Yay me too! I feel like I'm getting off to a slow start. We've booked our reception and ceremony venues and that's about it. We're about to sign the contract for the photographer but right now I'm researching videographers and makeup artists.
I'm a March 19 bride!
So far I've chosen a venue, then changed my mind and chosen another venue, then changed my mind and am considering the first venue again.
Bridesmaids dresses are bought and in the BM hands (clearance at JCrew...YAY!)
Save the dates (most of our guests will be traveling) are in and addressed, waiting to be mailed after I finally decide on venue.
Frames for my photo centerpieces bought.
FI wedding band bought (I'm just using my engagment ring as a wedding band)
Photographer picked out, but only email contact so far.
I feel like I should have more done, but of course this venue thing is the most pressing. I'm planning from afar, which isn't helping matters any...
Hello Ladies! Just got engaged last Friday and we want a quick engagement... so far progress for one week, the date, and the Church and the Reception Venue have been chosen! We haven't signed contracts for the Reception yet, we probably will Monday... YEAY! HOW FUN!
I was a March 20 bride this year- IT IS THE BEST TIME OF YEAR! Our wedding day was perfect and I'm sure march 2011 will be too!
Thanks vistagirl. I'm nervous because the weather in Oklahoma could literally do ANYTHING on March 19 (could have an ice storm, could be 120 degrees in the shade, could even have a tornado)...but it's my nieces spring break and I couldn't possibly have a wedding without them so here I am a March Bride!
Wow, soonerbride, you're on top of things! I'm a March 5 2011 bride and you have WAY more stuff done than I do! I better get on the ball!! :)
I'm a March 19, 2011 bride and I am so excited. So far I have the ceremony venue, reception venue, photographer, videographer, and wedding dress. Right now I'm working on my save the dates. I am so excited but at the same time I am starting to feel a little stressed when I think of all the little details I have to take care of.
Okay...I have completely committed to both a ceremony and reception venue (a huge relief to get that done). I mailed my STDs last week because it's spring break and we have a lot of people who will have to travel. My original photog cancelled on me, but I've found a new one that I like better, so that worked out. Working on the room blocks now.
We'll head to Oklahoma in early September to do cake tasting, premarital counseling, and to pick out a rehearsal dinner spot. I would really just like a low key, cheap RD, but FMIL is excited about planning it, so I'll just let her do whatever.
The part of this whole process that I'm least interested in is picking out a dress. Haven't done that yet, and actually really dreading it.
soonerbride, why are you dreading dress shopping?
I'm a March 19th bride also! :) So far I have venue, caterer, bartender, photography, florist and bakery all booked.
Centerpieces are provided by venue, bridesmaids dresses picked out but not purchased, bridsmaid ceremony and reception shoes purchased, my reception shoes purchased, dress and ceremony shoes picked out.
Invitations purchased, save the dates purchased and working on getting addresses currently.
I know I've done other stuff, but I can't think of them at the moment!
242 days and counting!
angela, I don't love shopping and I'd say I have some body image issues, so dress shopping sounds awful.
Have you printed your invitiations already?
No, not yet. We are going to start printing them in September, after all the save the dates are sent.
I have body image issues too, and that's why I've been looking online! I just look for ones that accentuate the good and hide the bad. :)
I was TOTALLY dreading my dress shopping, and it was so much fun and it went SO well! I bought my dress already! What styles are you looking at?
Sweetpea:
Glad to hear it went well for you. That gives me hope.
I'm looking for an inexpensive dress, first and foremost. I'm pearshaped, so I think probably a line. I would prefer sleeves, but of course those are hard to find these days....I've set my head on going shoppin in midseptember, so we'll see how it goes :)
I'm a March 19th bride too! Was originally the 17th until we realized a lot of people wouldn't be able to take off work for a Thursday wedding in another state! We are both FT students and we have 3 children so this is our Spring Break (and the kids as well), and if we waited until summer, well, FI and I can't stand the warmer weather!
We are a same-sex couple from Texas and marrying in Iowa.
So far the venue is reserved with deposit, my dress bought, FI's clothes are bought, guest list is final but still need one two addresses, then save the dates are to be mailed on Monday (ALL of our guests will be from out of town)... I have my shoes and hair piece for birdcage veil but not veil yet as I will be making it.
We've also reserved our lodging for the week in Iowa but have yet to send the deposit and I am nervous about that, but should have it done in a week. The owner (we're renting an entire house) has been awesome and reassures me that we are "reserved" but I won't relax until I can send them the money!
We've arranged for our musician for the ceremony and agreed upon his fee but have not picked songs yet, decided on (but not purchased) favors, bought favor bags, Bought a wedding keepsake book/guest book combo, flower girl basket (DD is our FG).
We've chosen the restaurant most likely to be our dinner reception location but I have yet to call the event planner at the restaurant. I HATE when people don't have email because I have some weird (but mild) phone-phobias. So I keep putting that off. We're doing it all from here so I've had to rely heavily on internet friends and reviews to help choose the place.
We have our wedding website all done with hotel info and so forth, good thing since we put the URL on the STD's.
Picked photographer but no contract yet. That one is weird because it's kind of a friend who is a pro who is getting back into the business after a few years off after having a baby, and she is all eager but hasn't talked details/exact dollar amounts yet. Need to push on that one. All we've decided is that we'll be paying for her airfare to the wedding (she's from Tx too) and then a "little cash" for her services.
We're watching airfare rates now, and as soon as we have the money we'll be ready to buy when we get a good deal.
There's still so much to do and I am kind of freaking out because we return to school on August 23rd, and I know that our time for this wedding stuff will drop by about 90%! I wanted to get as much done as possible before school started for that reason.
I know that figuring out/planning the actual ceremony is going to be a huge headache.
We'll be getting our license from here, just found out we can do it by "proxy" or however you want to call it, basically we can download the IA license app, take it to a notary, mail it in, and have it ready to go when we get there, so as to avoid worrying about the 3 day wait and scrambling around when we arrive in Iowa.
Oh, and I have talked to one cake guy in that area who has a website and good reviews and got some basic prices on the cake, but he is awful with returning emails, even though he has rave reviews online.
I have a hard time knowing what I should be doing at this point and what's next and I am not very organized. I'm using weddingwire but still. I kind of feel like I spin in different directions.
What about the rest of y'all?
205 days to go!
Baker and cake picked! Venues and caterer picked! Most likely florist picked! My dress picked! Bridesmaids' dress most likely picked! Favors purchased! Photographer done! videographer picked! he already has my wedding band :)
Still need transportation, a block of hotel for out-of-towners, an officiant (our engaged retreat is this weekend so I hope we like that priest!), readings, readers, and songs, I need to get his wedding band, invitations, linens and little details still.
and oh yeah... to get in shape! LOL
What about you girls?
I bough my dress, which should be in in December. This week I sent deposits to the ceremony sound guy and the DJ. We have the ceremony and reception venues, the officant, the photographers booked. Picked BM dresses before I did anything else. Have all the stuff to make favors (which will also serve as escort cards). HAve ordered a ton of sample papers and pocketfods to decide on colors for invites, but havent' made any firm decisions. We have TRIED to do room blocks, but that has been a miserable failure, so we are just linking lots of options on our website and not actually doing blocks.
Going to OKC the end of September, and at that time will definintely: meet with reception people to tie down the menu and figure out how we are going to do the bar, do premarital counselling with offician, find a rehearsal dinner venue. We will also hopefullly: choose a cake, talk to florists, meet with DJ and ceremony sound person in person to go over music stuff. The next (and probably LAST) trip to OKC will be over Christmas, so it's kind of do or die time. I'm not sure there is going to be any way to work in a hair trial, so I may just be doing my own hair for the wedding.
Things I'm hoping to get done from ABQ next week: Order cake topper, buy makeup (I haven't worn makeup in ten years) for engagement photos, and make some final decisions on invites.
Our photogs are going to be in New Mexico on vacation September 7, and are going to do e-pics for us then. I wasn't going to DO epics, but it worked out well, and this way we can meet them before the wedding (so far our only interaction has been email and phone calls).
Ugh, I'm starting to get stressed about how quickly it's coming.
Signed the flower and cake contracts this week! It's nice having the big stuff out of the way. now I need to get serious about finding invitations.
