Here's what I would consider a classy rendition of the theme! I think you can totally make this awesome! And the food sounds AWESOME. I'm drooling!

Here are a few more pics that might help you to visualize the theme:

I am so happy that I found this thread. Lady! You and I are venue twins, and ill be having my wedding there one week before you! My FI and I are from here and are head over heels in LOVE with southern oaks! We are sticking with a traditional new Orleans theme with Mardi gras thrown in. I can't wait to see how yours unfolds!!
We aren't getting married in New Orleans but we aren't too far away over in Pcola...we both LOVE the city so our day is having a New Orleans vibe to it. All of those inspiration boards look great!!! Best of luck to you! Oh and a huge Who Dat bc I can't wait for Sundays game!!!
Funny enough, we are actually renting that streetcar bus in the first inspiration board for our day! We got to climb all over it at I do at the dome. If you're interested in it, bonolimo limos is who owns it.
Wow, I didn't think it could be done but obviously I'm wrong! Some of these pictures are incredible, kudos for you for picking such a great theme. I think it will look wonderful :)
@Neauxla:Yay! We should chat more, I'm still trying to figure it all out and absolutely LOVE these suggestions that people gave here. I'm not the most creative person, so I just needed to see that it can be done. I'm thinking deep purple dresses, but I'm worried it looking too LSU if there's not enough green (FI is from Arkansas and neither of us went there) :)
What are you doing for flowers/centerpieces? I love the neutral tones of SOP and think it already looks pretty nice, but would like to add a splash of color. At the same time, flowers aren't something that I care too much about, so I'd like to keep it reasonably priced. Do you know who you're going with for a florist?
I'm so excited I found someone who will be going through it all at the same time as me! Feel free to message me to chat!

Hi All! Newly engaged and new to the chat boards, but there is so much helpful information on here!
Fiance and I are bothlive in San Francisco now, but are from the South, I'm from New Orleans. We are getting married next September in New Orleans at Southern Oaks Plantation.
I'm thinking about having a Mardi Gras theme, but am worried about the colors clashing or it looking tacky. Being from the area, I know a lot of decorations can be really tacky, so I want to do it a little understated. Our cake will be simple and white with fleur de lis on it and we are going to have a second line with the decorated umbrellas. I'm also going to get my bridesmaids nice mardi gras masks. We're having all southern food (think gumbo, jambalaya, beignets, etc)
Has anyone done a theme like this before? Do you have any pictures or ideas?
Thanks in advance!
