Is anyone having any mariachi music played during the dinner portion of your reception?  I was curious what is the average time they are hired?  If you have hired one, how much are you paying if you don't mind me asking.

Yes, I am!  I cannot wait until I have my Big Mexican Wedding!

They are usually hired for an hour.  We will be having ours from 8-9, during dinner.  I'm not sure what the going rate in LA is, but I imagine it might be a little higher than in South Texas.  I hired a lesser known 5 person mariachi for my sister's graduation party and I paid $300.  Nicer, well-known ones (for a formal wedding) would be more like $500 - $650.

    Hope this helps!

I cannot find a local mariachi band for my Buffalo, NY wedding.  A local restaurant has them play every two weeks, and they drive in from Indianapolis!  I contacted them to see if they would play our rehearsal dinner (we already have entertainment lined up for the reception), and they charge $1800 to make the trip and play (8 hour drive), or $450 if they are already in the area for a gig.  I think they would play a few hours as well.  Hope this helps!

Yeah, I just booked mine. For 3 hours it's gonna be about $800.  However, I don't think I'll need them for 3 hours....is that too long?

Are you having them play in your ceremony too? If so, I think 3 hours should be fine.  But if it's only for the reception dinner, it might be a wee to long.

My cousin leads a mariachi group of middle school students.  they are so cute and have played all over the place (including t.v. and my Latino graduation @ CSULB).  they charge $200 per hour (about 12 kids, i think), minimum 2 hours.  worth every penny!!  they will be playing for the cocktail hour and the while dinner is being served.

My FH wants them too!  We haven't found a group yet, but we will be having them for sure.  Our plan was to have them play during the ceremony and for 2 Hours after - it will help bridge the time between our ceremony and reception entrance and will entertain while we take pics.

I just recently attended a birthday party where they had a mariachi band....coolest thing EVER! It must have been the first time I'd really ever seen one play, but they were amazing! What a neat addition to your wedding. You're guests are going to love it and it totally made me want to dance like an idiot the whole time they were playing!

We are planning on hiring a mariachi for about 2 hours because that is that minumum of hours I've been told they have to be hired for. The prices I've seen so far on average is between $350-$400 an hour for about 5-6 members.  I still haven't been able to find the perfect one but I have gone to see a few.  I've tried doing research online but it's difficult to find any site that has all the information you need. Can you please tell me who you hired?

In Cali they are about $425 an hour.  We are having ours for two hours (and my folklorico group will perform with them at the end).  They are leading us down the aisle at the end of the ceremony only.

We're actually still debating on this one, many mariachis have a minimum of 2-3 hours, but to keep costs down we may go for just one hour since we will be having a live band too.  A good one my friends had at each of their wedding was "Mariachi Alma de Mexico," but I think they have a min. of 2 hours.  Still have not done all of the research yet.

We are having a mariachi band play during dinner. Most Mariachis won't play less than 2 hours. They usually charge $300-$400 per hour. Sounds like a lot but remember to divide that per band member. Its actually not that much..good luck!

We are having one! :) I am so exicted for it. FI's best friend's FIL and his brother play together and will be playing as part of our wedding gift.

We hired a band for my grandparent's 50th wedding anniversary and I believe they charged $350 for an hour.

I know I'm a little late, but..... we will be paying $400 per hour.  It is a mariachi group of 10 members and they are all under the age of 25 or so... it should be fun ;)
