To my knowledge, you need the one from the state/Cook County. It took mine abt 3 weeks to come - I was starting to worry.
Since my cousin was our officiant, I ended up sending our signed certificate in myself (the one that we received when we went downtown and applied/confirmed that we weren't related). This is what you are hoping your priest sent in. When I sent it, I had to send a check to pay for the 4 copies I wanted and self-addressed/stamped return envelope. I'm assuming that he knows how to do this - afterall, he does marry couples all the time.
I'm actually off to the DMV and Soc Sec office now to change my name. Crazy!
Thanks. I was pretty sure that's what I needed, but I figured I would ask just to be sure.

Ok, so I am trying to start the name change process, etc, and I wasn't sure if this would go in Legal or Catholic. I know that the priest is supposed to send the marriage certificate to the state and the state sends it to us. But we got a Certificate of Holy Matrimony from the church we were married in, does this count? Or do I need to wait on the one from the state? Also, how long does it take to get your marriage certificate?
