Depends on how long it took your officiant to sign and mail to the clerk of courts and then their processing time. I think the average is about 2 weeks. I'll be honest and say I did not want to wait so we had our officiant give us ours back and I took it to the clerk that Monday and received our certificate then. Got married on Saturday July 4th and had my new name legally and everything changed; BMV, SSN done on Monday. Loved it.
I got mine back a week after the wedding. Depends on the city how long it takes to get it back.
We had to go get ours because it costs (like 10 bucks or so) to get certified copies of it in our county. The original had been received by the recorder's office within a week, though, for us, and we were able to get our certified copy as soon as the original was available.
we had to go down to the couthouse and pick it up - you had to pay for each certificate you wanted. that's in DC though.
interesting. thanks bees - that gives me an idea. we were told we would get a copy (not certified). i think i'll call the courts just to check. i dont want to be waiting around to find out i was supposed to do something else..
our pastor signed it and gave it back to us on our wedding day, we mailed it the next day.
@deebstation: I think what they probably meant is that you get a 'certified copy' which is legal to use for name changes.
Ours was in our mailbox by the time we got back from our honeymoon...so it took about a week.
What can you do if they put the complete wrong date?? I'll give details if you need them.
You get it in the mail. I got mine back 4 days after our wedding (we got married on Saturday, we got it on Wed). I think it varies depending on where you are at, though.
Had to send a letter to the court clerk with a check (about 6 bucks) requesting it. Took about 1-2 weeks. I think it depends on the state.
I had to go in person to the County Clerk to get ours. We didn't get one in the mail, probably because you have to pay for them.
I had to mail a self-addressed, stamped envelope with $2 for every copy to the county clerk. Then they mailed me the certified copies. I hated that I had to pay for them.
In CT they don't send one unless you request it and pay for it
