Wow! They are really expensive. They usually give you the license right then, it just will not be valid until the waiting period is over. So, you should physically have the license on Monday when you go in and it will be three days before it can legally be signed by the officiant.

You can also do a premarital counseling course, which waives the waiting period and reduces the fee.

We are doing the Brevard County marriage license by mail.  We just received our 60-day mark paperwork and will be getting it notarized today and send back.  There is no waiting period for out of state residents (there is a 3-day waiting period for FL residents).  The license is valid for 60 days and our officiant will return it to the county clerk’s office while we go on our honeymoon.

I was told we would have to apply in person. FI and I have to make a special trip there at the end of April.   Could this be wrong?

I don’t think every county does online/by-mail marriage licenses, this could be the case in your situation?

This is the information given to me by the Disney Wedding Planner:

 Florida Marriage License

POLICIES/PROCEDURES

If you have been previously married, please provide a copy of your official marriage license.

If a previous marriage ended in divorce within the past twelve-(12) months outside of the State of Florida, a copy of the divorce decree is required prior to the Wedding Ceremony.

This license must be presented to the Officiant prior to the Wedding Ceremony.

Blood tests are not required

Proper identification is necessary, such as a driver’s license, certified copy of birth certificate, or passport.

The approximate cost of the marriage license is $98.00 (subject to change without notice), payable by cash, money order, Visa, or MasterCard. Personal checks are not accepted.

There is no waiting period for out of state residents

A 3 day waiting period is necessary for Florida Residents.

The marriage license will be issued at time of application, is valid immediately and must be used within sixty (60) days. (Some Florida Counties require a marriage license to be used within thirty (30) days of issuance.)

And here is the online service (more expensive):

We got married in West Palm Beach, FL in October.  There was NO WAITING PERIOD for out of state residence.  We had to apply in person.  It took about 45 minutes and they give you the marriage license right away.  It was really easy.  We got our license on Tuesday and were married on Thursday.

My advice is to check with the county that you are getting married in to see what they require before you do anything.
