Here in CA marriage licenses are valid for 90 days, does anyone know if that means the ceremony must be in 90 days or if both the ceremony has to be held and the license has to be returned/recorded within 90 days? We're like 82 days out from our wedding and both on break right now so we were thinking of going but want to make sure it's not going to expire if we don't get it returned/recorded within a week after the wedding.

The marriage needs to happen in that 90 day frame.

You mean the ceremony right? I was thinking that, everything says it needs to be returned within 10 days after the wedding but the expiration date will be 7 days after the wedding if we go tomorrow.

Yes, the ceremony. Your officiant will sign it showing the date it was performed as well.

    Another Mariagge License Question:

How long does it take to go on Record? Or how soon can I request a copy?

@CupCakeMeg: How long depends on many factors. If you want it done right away, do what I did. Have the officiant sign it and you take it yourself to the clerk of courts and you'll have your marriage certificate then. Every state is different regarding when they have to be sent back and processing time.

I can't say how long it will take to get your marriage certificate back where you live.  I was married on a Monday evening in a neighboring county, and I assume the officiant mailed the signed license to my county the next day. By Friday of the same week, they had mailed me 2 copies of my certificate.
