kimmo416:  A quick google search makes it seem like this usually happens in cases when someone was previously married and the divorce was incorrectly filed… do you think that is a possibility?

Don’t you hate how shit like this always happens on a Friday afternoon and you have to wait until Monday to resolve it? I hate that!- granted I’ve never had a marriage rejected- but like dr bill disputes etc.

There may just have been a mistake made in filling out the form or when your officiant mailed it in. I know it’s hard not to worry about it, but I’m sure it’s something that can be resolved. Fingers crossed for you!

kimmo416:  Ok good! I’m sure it’s probably just some kind of clerical error. Try not to worry too much over the weekend, everything should be fine!

eeniebeans:  I hate when that happens as well. It literally ruins my whole weekend.

kimmo416:  It could  be something small and technical– this happened to my sister.

Her friend- who was the officiant accidently put the city they live in as the city they married in- and then crossed it out and rewrote it.  Every county has a certain way they do things (for example- in the US- you cannot correct or cross anything out on a birth certificate– they won’t accept it).

So my sister and her husband (but not really!) got a letter – I don’t remember the wording…..but they were not legally married at that point- at least on file- and wouldn’t be until the corrections were made without being crossed out, or something like that.

They had to refill parts of a sheet out and send it back (they got married in a neighboring state)— and then shortly after the real marriage certificate came and that was that.

They didn’t have to get married again, or perform any official services again.

kimmo416:  Okay, I believe Dallas allows for online application submission, correct? If you submitted it online did you make sure that it was filled out completely and correctly? FULL first middle and last names (no nick names), current address as it appears on your DL (BIG ONE, these MUST match!), your birth information is exactly as it appears on your birth certificate?

Also, I doubt y’all have kids or anything, but neither of you is late on child support payments right? They can reject marriage application for that reason.

Another thing, if you filled on line, did you actually go to the office to pick up the actual marriage license to give to the priest/whomever to sign/send back? You should have gotten a confirmation number when you submitted it. If you didn’t get a confirmation number, then your application never went through.

If you didn’t file online, any errors in the application should have been caught and rejected IMMEDIATELY. They should have given you your marriage license (as well as a bunch of stupid information, including directions to a website to inform you about AIDS/HIV) after accepting your application. If you did get the marriage license, then you can pretty much rest assured it was something to do with actually processing the marriage license (your priest may have filled something out incorrectly, like date, time, etc.). If you actually recieved a marriage license, don’t freak out – the errors on the license can be corrected and you shouldn’t have to get married again!

kimmo416:  I don’t really have much input, it’s likely a small error in filling out the paperwork as PPs said. But now I’m freaking out a little thinking this is going to happen to me! Damn you anxiety. Let us know when you find out what happened!
