We had a family table for the five of us…  The plaque says: Family: all because two people fell in love.

@Coleerenee: Those were just vases that were up there for the bouquets. I wanted them spread out over the whole table but my BM put each bouquet in front of each girl. The BM that did this also did this at my MOHs wedding a month prior and I had to change it on her but didn’t bother changing it at my own wedding… go figure 😉

There is an extra centerpiece in front of me. We only ordered them for the tables but I guess they made an extra one and just gave it to us anyway!

@crebre80: I like that Dish!? (Is it a dish?) Is it up in your house now? Very cute!

Ours was nothing to write home about… We just had a white table cloth with a green pintuck overlay in the middle.  We put a couple candle holders and vases for the bridesmaids bouquets on the table.

My photo won’t upload for some reason…

Our was really long, our bridal party was 6 BM’s 6 GM’s.  We split it up and did Boy girl boy girl so SO’s could sit together.

Please don’t take this the wrong way as I’m not trying to offend anyone, but I feel that head tables are dated and slightly tacky.  Though some of the photos above are nice, it just wasn’t our thing.  So I’m posting a photo of our table.  Just for the hubs and me.

We had a head table because DH wanted to (and I didn’t mind) but our bridal party was too big so it was me, DH, MOH, BM, the priest who married us (who’s also a friend) and my niece and nephews decided they wanted to sit with us too so we (I) moved their chairs over to join us.  I won’t include a photo because it wasn’t pretty (DJ had to set up behind us on a raised stage…sigh) but it worked out for us!  That being said I haven’t been to many weddings with head tables over the years, at least not in the USA.  It’s still common in Ireland but most of the weddings I’ve been to at home in the US have either had the bride and groom at a ‘sweetheart table’ which I’m not really a fan of or have had the bride and groom sit with parents or other close family/friends at a regular table.

Its a very hard decision to have a head table versus sweat heart table.  For us, its what worked best in our venue space and for the dynamics of our group and our families.

I also didn’t really want to feel like I was siting alone so we didn’t want to do a sweat heart table.  We wanted to be able to identify our bridal party (for all the help and support they provided).  We felt that just seating them at the normal tables would be rather tacky and not respectful to them.

For my sister’s wedding, there was a head table for the wedding party and then a sweetheart table just for the bride and groom that was on a raised platform. I don’t really think head tables are dated or tacky…just a matter of the bride and groom’s personal preference.

@stephinPA: dated and tacky? that was kind of rude to be honest… There are many reasons why people chose to have head tables one of which that happens to be mine is that I want to be able to sit with my FI and all of our friends, but to each their own I guess.
