@Payless:  When we first got engaged this was a huge debate for us. I wanted him in uniform and he refused. The BP is about 1/2 military 1/2 civilian. His arguement was that the military is not his entire life, he wears a uniform every day and one day out of his life, he wanted to wear a tux. He said to me “would you wear your work clothes to the wedding?” Hmmm. Point taken. Everyone is going to be in a tux, and the last 2 military weddings we have been to, no one wore a uniform. I thought that was interesting, cause I always assumed they would be worn when one is in a wedding!

My FI is a little on the lazy side when it comes to shopping so he was more than happy to just wear his uniform. Two groomsmen will be in black or very dark Navy suits and then third will also be in his Navy SDBs. The upside, is that I feel totally legitimated in pushing for a sword arch. I think it would be weird otherwise if he was not in uniform.

@Payless:  How many groomsmen are you having? We rented from Men’s Warehouse and with 5 GM rentals, my FI got his tux free.  I would definately say he needs to wear his cover if he’s going to wear his blues, but does he have a mess dress? No cover is worn. That would solve the hat issue!

@Payless:

My husband is air force, he wore his dress blues, and all the bridal party were civilians wearing black Tuxes from Mens wearhouse. It looked great, and not weird at all, but my wedding theme color was navy blue. To match his uniform go figure 😛 The groomsmen all wore the blue vests/ties. The bridesmaids all wore navy dresses.

Sorry no picture to share, but my fiance will be in his army dress blues.  The dress blues are new…it used to be green.  Out of his 8 attendants, 4 are military or former military but they will only be in uniform IF they have the new dress blues.  Otherwise, navy suits!  I don’t want mismatched uniforms and suits.

My husband and two of his groomsmen are in the AF, the best man was in the Coast Guard, and the last groomsmen a civilian.. so we would’ve had a mix, which I wasn’t thrilled about, but was okay with. My MIL begged and begged my DH to wear his dress blues, but he was just not having it lol They all wore grey tuxes and he was sooo happy with the decision.

My FI was going to get married in a suit as he did say he wears his uniform all the time and he isn’t marrying the airforce however thinking more about it and tradition he didn’t want to look back at our wedding photos and regret not wearing his uniform and that he is proud to wear it and has so much more meaning than just a suit. However non of his grooms party are in the forces so will be in traditional tails. We are going to have a guard of honour still and hopefully a flypast. In the evening FI is going to change into his suit as more comfortable to dance in so all serving members can change also. Not sure the BM dresses will match because I chose those when he wasn’t going to be wearing his uniform but sticking with the colours and I am sure it will all look great.
