I know it’s a ‘thing’ for a lot of women to get a special perfume to wear on the wedding day, and since Scent is one of the most memory-related senses, it’s easy to go back to the joy you felt that day just by taking a whiff. However, I am not into perfume.
So I was just curious, is there anything else that you see, hear, smell, etc. that just TOTALLY puts you in a good mood because it takes you back to your wedding day?
For me it’s the music! We went very contemporary on most of the music, especially from the slide show and ceremony. Whenever these songs come up I get totally happy almost instantly! (or put on the full play list whenever I need a pick-me-up.)
Here are some of my memory-jogging songs. What are your triggers?
- Love Story/ Taylor Swift- Processional
- I See the Light/ Tangled soundtrack- sung during ceremony
- Accidentally In Love/ Counting Crows- Recessional, also ‘our song’ while dating
- Lucky/ Jason Mraz and Colbie Calliat- First dance
- Cinderella/ Stephen Curtis Chapman- Dad’s dance
- Dreams/ The Cranberries- bridal party reception entrance
- All I want is You/ Juno sountrack- part of slide show music
- Darling, I Do/ …um, not sure- part of slide show music
- You are All that I Have/ Snow Patrol- part of slide show music

Ohhh the music, definitely. I listen to my ipod on random a lot and when a song comes up like our first dance or the song I walked down the aisle to…I just smile like an idiot.
My other reminder is less serious. :p My “something blue” was a pair of cute VS lacy hipster panties. Whenever I wear them I think of the wedding day, and if my husband sees me in them he’s like “Hey, wedding panties!”

Things in our wedding colors – my favorite color (blue) and his (green)! 🙂 Also, lots of the music from our wedding. Most notably, the theme song from the movie Love Actually – it’s what i walked down the aisle to! He picked it, and I’ll never forget the tears in his eyes!

Wow, are we like the same person or what?! I was going to say music, and I used Love Story for my processional, Cinderella for the father-daughter dance, and snuck some Disney music in there too! That is crazy!
Scent does it for me too – I spent the entire two days before our wedding searching everywhere for Taylor’s perfume, Wonderstruck, because although the official release date was a few days after my wedding I’d heard some places released it early, and I did find it!

@Wonderstruck: Ha! That’s so funny. Good taste, btw.
Darling Husband picked Tangled all on his own. I’d been trying to find a good song that a Bridesmaid or Best Man and Groomsmen could do as a duet during our sand ceremony and came up with only a couple options. Darling Husband said he actually got tears in his eyes when he heard the song in the theater, and I just loved the movie, so it was perfect!
What I also love about Cinderella is that before the wedding I could NOT hear the song without getting all teary or full on weeping. But AFTER the wedding, I just see me and dad spinning around the dance floor and half laughing (cause we’re only so-so dancers) and I just smile.

Our music and my perfume, for sure.

@misspeanut: That’s cute. I didn’t wear any special undergarments, though I guess the sparkly blue bracelet I wore at the reception would count too.
@pengoala: Huh, I didn’t realize Love Actually had a theme song? Great movie. 🙂 “So if you really love Christmas, come on and let it snow!” so cheesy… lol.

the music the most! Everyone had a blast dancing and people were doing some funny dances. Also, flowers. I kept some of my silk flowers and they are in the living room. It is a daily reminder of that wonderful day! 😀

Music for sure! Especially Bruno Mars’ Count on Me, our groomsmen surprised us by recording it and making a music video that was presented as part of the best man’s speech. I get all teary every time I hear that song.

OH! I also want to add to the list of songs I’ve Got a Feeling/ Black Eyed Peas. My sister and several other BM’s and I totally just ROCKED OUT to this song. It was a total blast to dance to and the memory always comes back when I hear it again.

Music definitely. That song “put it down on me” came on in the limo on our way to the reception and we were all rocking out. totally reminds me of my wedding haha. I also love when one of our wedding songs comes up on the country stations. I’ve cried in my car before because of it haha.

@totheislnds: Ah the limo. How could I forget the limo! The ladies all got ready at my house and we took the limo to the church. We had an impromptu sing-a-long of “Goin’ to the Chapel” and the driver just had to put the partition down to listen. I haven’t heard this since then, but I’m sure it’ll take me back too.

- Wedding: October 2011 - Bed & Breakfast
Like everyone else, it’s a song. We did not plan to do any dancing, but when Brown Eyed Girl came on, I just had to dance. I grabbed Mr. Lk and we snuck off to the side to have our private first dance as man and wife. Now whenever I hear that song, I grin like a fool. White flowers (particularly the tulips that are blooming right now) remind me of our table and how happy and serene I felt as I looked out on all of our very favorite people in the whole world. And the framboise lambic that we drink reminds me of sitting around with our friends talking and laughing late into the night. I felt so very warm, happy, exhausted, and elated in those hours, and the taste brings it all back in an instant.

Our wedding songs are the biggest trigger for me… when I hear them I just smile and think of the moment during the wedding when the song was played and how magical it all seemed.

I think it’s interesting that most of the commenters were married in the last year (except for 1 person). Don’t any non-newlywed ladies still get these moments? Or have they just left the boards since then?
