So I'm considering trying out the Master Cleanse program intended to rid your body of toxins and helps you lose weight, as well. For those of you who are unfamilair it is a program in which you drink a concoction of lemon juice, purified water, cayenne pepper, and maple syrup about 6-12 times a day. You can't anything else except for the herbal teas and also have to do a "salt flush"(makes ya go). I'm not realy doing this for a long term weigh loss plan because I hear you gain most of the weight back, but mostly because I hear that after you feel a lot more active and even makes you feel and look fresher. I also here it is very challenging and as a result of the hunger can be very irritable.

Anyone try this? What were your results?

Don't do it unless you're prepared to become VERY ill and nasty feeling. I kept it up for a full 2 weeks once...I lost about 20 lbs that came right back and I felt just SICK and gross, even afterwards. It's a load of crap.

I never understood these things.  You aren't properly nourishing your body, so how can it be healthy?

I tried it and passed out the second day. I do not recommend it.

I tried it and I HATED it.  1) Swallowing something w/ cayenne and pepper just isn't pleasant and 2) Not a whole lot of nutrients there so you feel like crap the entire time.  If you are just looking for short term (because you are right, you will gain all the weight back very quickly) maybe looking into a cleanse that has my nutrients.  I tried Isagenix and loved that.

I tried it, it lasted for 3 days.  If I had go on I think it would of ended in me going on a murderous rampage.  I did it to cleanse, not simply to lose weight.  But I realized the actual act of eating was too important to me.  And I'm the grumpiest person when I'm hungry!  So it didn't go well.  The juice itself wasn't bad, it was a pain to prepare but it didn't taste horrible to me.  I don't think I lasted long enough to experience all of the... bowel issues either.  They say that you're supposed to stick it out, for at least 7 days.  And that the cravings you have are just your body ridding itself of those impurities that you're used to... but I couldn't deal, so the cravings just made me go to the mexican restaurant and order nachos :o/

There's a Slate video article where the reporter does it and videotapes it as it's going on.  One thing I remember is that it was pretty much impossible to do a full day of work while on it... unless you have a bathroom office.

I highly recommend not doing it. I've only heard bad things about it. My older sister tried it, lost 10 lbs but it all came back and she felt horrible. If you want to to a detox there are plenty of other ones out there. Try Yogi Peach detox teas. They're not bad tasting, and pretty gentle. Or you can eat very clean and your body ends up getting rid of everything naturally, and of course you lose weight and feel better.
