I’ve seen this statement in so many threads and it doesn’t make any sense to me. “The proposal’s coming soon, what color nail polish is most likely to match the ring?” “This color makes my ring look amazing.” “Can I wear this polish with this ring?”
Granted I’m not one for manicures or nail maintenance. Once the paint chips off completely, I’ll take off the polish and pick a new color. Not once, though, have I ever picked a nail polish color based on whether or not it will “match” my ring. I thought rings were supposed to match everything considering most people wear it constantly with everything. I didn’t realize that nail polish is the exception to that. Considering how far your nails are from your ring, I don’t even know how to match them. I would think it’s more important to match a ring to your skin tone seeing as that’s what it’s directly up against.
Do you match your polish to your rings? If so, what determines whether or not it matches? Do you no longer wear certain colors because they don’t match? Is the rest of your wardrobe affected?

For me personally wearing too much glittery nail polish takes away from the beauty of my ring. It’s like to people fighting on black friday over cheap tupperware. So I knocked down my glitz and keep it more contained. I don’t know much about “matching” my nail polish to my ring, I think I’d have to just wear a simple coat of clear to “match”. I do think I get tons of compliments when I wear my deep red nail polish.

@HonoraryNerd: No, but if I had thought about it, it would.

My ring doesn’t contain any actual colours (unless gold counts as a colour), so it would be hard for anything not to “match”. But I generally am too active to wear polish, and I only wear a manicure for a special occasion.

I try to match, but it’s because I have a sapphire. When I wear red nail polish, it looks like my hand is celebrating the fourth of July, lol.

I like bright nail polish, and my rings haven’t changed that. I can’t have painted nails at work, but I still do fun colors on the weekends sometimes.

My polish matched, but I had NO idea he was planning on proposing to me!

I own the rainbow and then some of polish and they all look good, however I will say that on the rare occasion when my nails are black my ring pops that much more!

I dont know about matching, but I choose colors that dont look ridiculous with my red stones (e.g., hot orange, neon green). Everything else though looks fine. Black, red, pink, nude, lilac, even pale blue and mint 🙂

@HonoraryNerd: I put on a teal nail polish the other day (just because i liked the colour) and found it was almost the same shade as my ring……when I pointed it out poudly to my husband he rolled his eyes…..but seceretly he was dead chuffed that I am still obsesed with my engagement ring 🙂

I select nail polish that will look good with my work attire. I supervise people that are required to dress professionally, so I must lead by example. I range from nude to dark red without added designs or glitter. My ring does not factor in the color selection.

@AchristineR: What color polish was it and what does your ring look like that they matched? What qualities do they posess that make them match?
I guess I understand more with the colored stones; sapphire, ruby, etc. That’s a color that clashes with some other things. I guess I’m more confused when it comes to clear stones matching your nails.

I always go with neutral colors but not be ause of my rings. I just think I look best with calm colors.

I honestly never heard of or thought of matching my polish to match my ring. I find that notion a little sad and silly

I only matched my polish when I was first presented my ring. It’s an aquamarine so I wanted to highlight the color. I didn’t match my ring to my skin because I wanted the stone to match my FI’s eyes. Everyone has their reasons. Other than that, my nails are bare because I just can’t be bothered regular nail maintenance. 🙂
