I'm going to give them some guidelines (black pump or peep-toe), but after that it's up to them. I'm hoping they already own the shoe so that they can save some $$!
I don't think I would ever select shoes for bridesmaids, though, and I never have appreciated it when a bride whose party I've been in has picked my shoes for me--not everyone can walk well in the same height heel, and nothing will ruin your day more than shoes that hurt! And the shoes that feel good are unique to each person.
I'm giving my girls a color and after that its up to them. I was in a wedding where the bride insisted we all have the same shoe...lets just say my feet felt ugly. I think setting boundries but allowing personal style makes everyone feel good.

When it came to shoes, I didn't care what my bridemaids wore. I had them select any shoes they liked, any height or style. They all selected black (to go with their dresses), but I honestly wouldn't have cared if they chose other colors. I felt like I had so many decisions to make that I didn't have the energy to care about their shoes.
Were you specific about the style of shoe that you asked your BM to wear?
