(Closed) maternity clothes… where to buy

To tell you the truth, with all my friends that were pregnant, they never bought actual “maternity” clothes.  For the most part they were able to still fit their regular clothes, EVEN their jeans.  Of course 7-8 mo down they wore mostly sweat pants, but as far as the tops go, they still wore t-shirts they already own.  Plus most of the stylish tops they make now (baby-doll) tops work fine with pregnant women.  It almost seems like a waste of money to purchase maternity clothes when they normally cost a lot more than just regular bigger tops.

Lori,

You’re right, you can purchase those, or you can go the cheap route, such as my friends, and just use rubber bands lol.

Target has maternity clothes at lot of times on the clearance racks, I’ve noticed.  I don’t think it’s a huge market for them, so they always have a huge selection very cheaply. 🙂

If you are small and petite, then you may be lucky and be able to wear your regular clothes thru a lot of your pregnancy. That being said I would probably buy at least one or two things bc you never know when you will get out of bed one day and nothing fits! It def happens. Also you maybe be able to wear a lot of your regular jeans but it just might not be as comfortable when you start to pooch out. Most of my t-shirts became way too short once I really got a belly at about 4-5 months.

I had a lot of luck buying brand new Gap maternity clothes on ebay. Also they’re online sales can be really good. I have preferred to stick with the demi panel jeans that stay on the lower part of your belly as you grow.

Good luck with your pregnancy!

Target, Old Navy, Kohls were all reasonably priced for my budget.  They’ve always got sales going on (got 2 pairs of maternity khakis for work for $15ea!) and Old Navy even has good deals if you shop online.

Target, Old Navy, Gap, and Motherhood were my go-to stores (I just couldn’t justify spending a ton on something I’d wear for less than a year). However, I’d definitely check eBay and try to buy a well-priced lot in your size. That way, you get a whole wardrobe for $50-100, and can just piece in the rest of what you need.

Usually you can wear normal clothing, but I think it’s nice to also purchase a few cute maternity things. Target has cute stuff and also Pea in a  Pod has cute stuff and their outlet stuff is pretty inexpensive.

I would also check out eBay. I imagine that there are some good lots if you’re okay with wearing second-hand things.

Target has Liz Lange right now! It’s all very cute and reasonably priced.

Do you work out often? There is a really awesome maternity activewear company called Fit2Bmom and you can actually wear their stuff even when you aren’t pregnant. My sister has a TON of it and swears by it. PLus, a lot of their tops look like regular tops and not like a workout top.

Network a little bit with friends, too.  I think I only bought like 5 things, but I got 3 huge boxes of maternity clothes (really cute stuff) from friends!

I love the Liz Lange long sleeve maternity tees from Target and wear them under everything, and have 2 Old Navy low rise pairs of maternity pants that are *really* comfy.  Other than that, I’m wearing my old stuff and stuff from the maternity boxes I was given!

Lucky for you, you are petite and small so you can probably get away with wearing your regular clothes and maybe purchase a belly band or two.

I on the other hand had no other option than to buy maternity clothes once I reached 4 months. My favs have been Motherhood Maternity and Old Navy. Both are always having sales and great clothing. I am actually wearing a cute maternity dress from Old Navy right now and it was maybe $15.
