Man – I’m the total opposite!  I see maternity clothes and want to buy some of them even though I’m not pregnant!

I got a lot of great stuff at Motherhood Maternity. To avoid things that look long and flowy and just make you look larger, look for tops that tie under your chest. This helps seperate the two and focus on your belly.

I didn’t “need” maternity clothes until I was about 7 months, then I got some muumuu type shirts and dresses at Motherhood Maternity and Target just so I could be comfortable!  I agree that most maternity clothing is pretty ugly, though :-/

I had a cute pair of Old Navy maternity jeans and a lot of leggings and yoga pants, then most of my shirts until 7 months were actually just empire and a-line shirts and dresses that I already owned or that I bought it bigger sizes.  I relied a lot on long cardigans and wrap sweaters/sweatshirts, too.

I actually really like Old Navy Maternity for cute tops, and when there are sales you don’t feel like you’re paying too much for stuff that really will only last you a few weeks.  Try Old Navy and Gap, and then just look for long/loose/empire/a-line tops that are long enough for your new belly!

I just read an article about how Jessica Simpson avoided maternity clothes throughout her pregnancy for the same reason, so she decided to launch her own line of “fashionable” maternity clothes, coming this fall I believe.

I ddin’t buy maternity clothes. I went to a second hand store and bought “big” clothes… LOL So my tops and stretchy elasticized pants and skirts costs me $2-5.00 each instead of $30-50 each!

I was trying to wear my jean skirt because it was hot. and it would not fit, it was super tight around my waist. I put on my maternity shorts and nearly cried to my husband, “Babe! They look like mom shorts!”

He laughed at me! 😮

I knew I was gonna get big, I just didn’t realize how fast. I can’t get most of my dresses over my boobs….. and I just bought a few dresses for our honeymoon. Makes me sad…

I have been scoping around these sites trying to find a dress for a wedding thats coming up….not having much luck… I am about to just settle for whatever…. I don’t want to spend a fortune, but everything is like you said…. “blah”.

Over half my “maternity clothes” are just regular clothes. I just have bought longer, stretchy shirts, empire-waist dresses, etc..

For the most part I do longer non-maternity tops and summer dresses. With the maternity topes I have I mostly stuck with basics (plain t’s non side rouching) and the accesorize them. I have gotten a really cute tunic from Motherhood that I can’t wait to wear with leggings and skinny jeans.

I love the under belly jeans and shorts I have way more comfortable, although I do have some lower rise jeans and capris I can still wear.

@Mrs.KMM:  LOL, I do that too!  I often see dresses with GREAT prints on them at Target, only to realize they are maternity 🙁

I know what you mean! Right now I’m living in dresses and they’re non-maternity. I did buy a pair of jeans, leggings and cord leggings (very cute and comfy!) for the Fall. Other than that, I think I’m just going to keep wearing my long, open sweaters and layer with inexpensive maternity t-shirts – or if I can just do longer shirts in my size or 1 larger. All the maternity things I have seen are either blah or way to expensive for what you need them for.
