Maternity Swimwear – one piece or two piece?

Posting to follow. I’m quite tall and have an extremely hard time finding one piece swimsuits that fit me, so I wear almost all two pieces, even though I’m a bit overweight. We’re in our first month TTC, so this isn’t an issue yet, but I assume I’ll just keep wearing two pieces after pregnancy, just because it’s easier and I think it’d be a nightmare to find a one-piece maternity suit that fits me.

i got a motherhood maternity two piece ranking from Macy’s that I really liked. Plenty of room to grow yet still covered everything. I wasn’t doing laps, just lounging, but I liked it.

i’m posting just to see what people say!  we are going somewhere warm in january and i’ll be around 5-6 months pregnant at that point, so i’ll need a swimsuit for that (prob just wear my bikinis though!) and then after i deliver in june i’ll need swimwear for the summer AND we’re going to jamaica the following november, so i’ll need something cute at that time too!

i’ve seen a few cute “loungy” strapless one-pieces from VS, but i just don’t know what to do!!

Miss Mochaccino:  This is my second pregnancy, and my tummy was already getting significantly bigger @ 10 months.

I found a cute tankini and then bottom at Target, so it’s a 2 piece, but I’m fully covered.

It was a little big in the belly at first, but I didn’t fit into my old swimsuit anymore (another tankini fitted enough that it was not OK with my belly).

The funny think about maternity one pieces (at the ones I’ve come across)– is that the tummy is so big on them, but since it’s ONE piece, it’s looks sort of goofy until your belly has grown into it all the way.

I don’t see why you couldn’t wear a 2 piece to swim laps– might not be a first choice, but it’s only temporary.

I’m not pregnant but I have an opinion as an onlooker of pregnant women.  I love to see mom’s-to-be rockin their bump in a bikini! I think it’s super special to be pregnant (probably bc I haven’t ever been haha) & I think it’s great to see the women. I do feel like there is a point where a one piece of whatever style becomes more appropriate.  I’m not sure exactly when it happens, and it’s probably different for everyone,  but when the belly gets really hairy & the belly button gets foreign looking. And maybe it doesn’t happen to everyone? I certainly don’t know, but sometimes it’s just uncomfortable to look at things that aren’t of the norm. That’s all. I think you should wear that bikini with pride!

And congratulations on being pregnant. I can’t wait until it’s time to be blessed with the same gift 🙂

I would probably just wear a two piece.  I hated buying maternity clothes because it gets so little use.  so I wouldn’t want to buy an extra swimsuit I’d never use again.

Miss Mochaccino:  Well Im 24w today and will be going on our babymoon in 2 weeks tomorrow… I will be wearing bikinis all the way because I dont think Ive been able to wear a once piece since childhood. I have a really long torso and even suits that are supposed to be “extra long”, still look like Im trying to squeeze into a 12 year olds suit LOL. Im definatly not a supermodel by any means but I have mostly booty short type bottoms not skimpy things. My bump is getting quite massive now so that should be interesting 🙂

I agree with Peanut-Sue:, I love seeing pregnant women showing off their bellies in 2 pieces. I think its adorable!

At 7 months, I wore boy-short style bottoms, and had a non-maternity top from Target that was one size larger than what I usually wear- $5 on sale!

Miss Mochaccino: I say bikini all the way! I bought a Speedo two-piece for lap swimming. I wore it up until my last lap swim at about 37 weeks, I think. I normally wear a size 4 in that suit and I ordered a size 10, it fit great. I am still wearing it now 3 months post partum because my boobs are huge (went from an A cup to a DD!!!) and my bum is bigger. Also, we went to Hawaii when I was 28 weeks and I wore a Patagonia bikini, it was so comfy and I thought it looked better than a maternity tankini (a friend lent me two maternity tankinis but I thought they looked too….I don’t know….matronly? Haha). Here’s a pic from our trip:

I vote tankini-the best of both worlds! I hate peeling off a 1 piece to pee, I can’t imagine doing that with a belly.

Not pregnant, never have been… but my SIL was 6-9 months pregnant this summer and ROCKED a super cute bikini.. she said “If you don’t like it, don’t look at it.” Pregnant women are BEAUTIFUL. Rock that bump!!
