I absolutely am in LOVE with the Trellis Dress 2700 from Matthew Christopher, but it is way out of my available budget! Anyone know any good places I might be able to find it second hand? Or floor samples, etc?

Or even recommend a similair dress from a more inexpensive designer? Has anyone had their dress custom made? How expensive is that?

    Starfish,

I totally understand.  I fell in love with a dress from MC from his 2007 collection too.  I loved this designer because of his beading and clean lines.

but his dresses start at 2 1/2 - 3K.  Several ideas that worked for me.

    1. Take the time to look carefully at what you love about the dress and figure out what you truely love and what you wouldn't mind changed a bit.  Things to consider are 1. Shape/ cut of the dress. Do you love A-lines? 2. Fabric 3. waist 4. neckline 5. detail 6. train.

Once you know what you like most, start searching different ways.

    1. Try to find a similar dress from a more affordable sourse.  I liked Cassablanca bridal, and Dometrios has several options.  Others are out there.  Try www.brides.com and search several ways to see what is similar out there.

    2. Get the list of retailers that carry MC gowns off the MC website and call them all to see if they have Sample dresses for sale.  There are not many stores and they are all over the country.  I did this last spring and since this dress is from his 2007 collection, it is possible to find if not that dress, another one similar for about 1/2 off.  Be aware though that these dresses will be too long for the average girl and might need lots of altering if you are not their model dress size.  Extensive altering with lots of beading is very difficult.  So you would have to hope you are the right size.

This size chart should help.  http://www.victoriasbridalcouture.com/matthewchristophersizechart.html

btw, I ended up with a store sample dress from another top designer, not MC and I was very happy with it.

    wishing you success,
