I am right there with you! I only have venue, photog and makeup booked. That's it. And FI still has to ask a couple of his groomsmen.
@Natalieh86: omg should I be booking make-up now?! lol Im a mess. I glad to see Im not semi-alone.
You're definitely not alone, I have a venue (with catering included, thank god), dress and that's it. I'm working on a photographer/makeup... otherwise I'm gonna be a last minute girl!
@Aubergold: No that was really random, I found someone I was interested in before I even found the venue and she emailed back saying someone else had inquired about my date so I jumped on it. My biggest concern right now is DJ but I put FI in charge of that so we will see.
@Natalieh86: That's why I'm bothering with makeup at this point. A photographer I'm chatting with suggested a good one who happens to be open that weekend. It's just working out that way.
Don't feel bad--we haven't even nailed down our venue (going over the contract, right now, however)--let alone anything else! Eep!
I am so with you, back in May we were travelling 200 miles from our city to our wedding town almost every weekend until we finally found the right venue. Since then we've booked our photographer, a friend of a friend. Other than that, nothing! We've just made the decision to self-cater and I'm planning to do as much DIY as I can, but I'm starting to panic a little as I realize it's only seven months away...
Threads like this make me feel a lot better than the threads announcing that STDs/invites have already been sent. ;)
I found once it rains it pours - I book one thing and all of a sudden 229 other things somehow get booked too.
I try to keep up with my knot email. They give me the monthly checklist and I cross my fingers I have done it already. I need to find someone for hair and make up. Other than that... I think the major things are done?
What does everyone else consider the "BIG" things? I get nervous I'm missing something
Venue
Florist
DJ/Band
Dress
Photographer
Officiant
What else am i missing?
I'm proud of myself for having the meat & potatoes done before the madness of holiday sets in:
Venue, Caterer, DJ, String Trio, Photographer, Videographer, Baker, Invites (deposit put down, not ordering for a while), Dress, Bridesmaids, Boudoir photos done, Flowers, engagements happening in a month, favors figured out...
...
Feel like I'm missing a million details.
I haven't truly started either! I have ideas and have contacted the venue and the caterer but haven't signed any contracts. Guess I never thought about how fast the months will go once the holidays are upon us. Hmm possible freak out moment approaching.
Girls - can I join this thread!? I'm a June 2, 2012 bride....that's close enough, right? I feel like I haven't done much, either.
We booked a place, and have decided on a caterer (meeting with them in October, they said they would hold our date) and a photographer (also meeting soon, same deal). Right now I have a broken right ankle which means I can't walk OR drive. You'd think I'd be spending all my time wedding planning, but it's surprising how much of it you actually have to GO somewhere to do! I've picked out a dress I really adore, I'm just not 100% yet. I figure I have lots of time to order it since they said it would take 14 weeks (plus alteration time).
We still don't have a DJ, rings, accessories, BM dresses (I haven't even asked one of the girls yet!), and FI hasn't asked the groomsmen yet although we know who they will be (2 of the 3 will be my brothers). We haven't really figured out decorations either, although I know where I want to get my flowers from. Invites and STDs are another thing altogether....rehearsal dinner....honeymoon.....
it's nice to see threads like this ;)
On the one hand I feel like I have a lot done but on the other I still haven't booked or even really considered the caterer, the cake baker, the DJ, the ceremony musicians... and I'm DIY'ing the STDs and the invites and as per my own little timeline the STDs should have gone out this month and haven't even ordered the paper yet. PLUS I've had a mini religious meltdown because short version is this.... FI grew up Methodist and still considers himself Methodist. I grew up Baptist, went to college and converted to Catholicism, went through confirmation, the whole nine yards, was very active in my parish while in college, then moved home. The parish in my hometown is very small and really has no young people that go to it and while everyone is extremely nice, I started going back to the church I grew up in. So except for Holy Days of Obligation I hardly attend Mass but still consider myself to be Catholic (now I know some would not consider me to be a good Catholic, but once Catholic always Catholic) Anyway, my childhood pastor naturally assumed that he would be marrying us when we announced our engagement. As a matter of fact, FI has never even been to Mass with me only to my Baptist church. Of course, FI knows I'm Catholic... not sure if his family does though. So the point of all of this (so much for being a short story), is that I guess I've known all along but I'm worried about my marriage not being considered valid in the Catholic church because we won't have been married in a Catholic ceremony. I haven't talked to FI about my concerns yet beause I want to get all the facts from my priest so I can go to the table with all the information. Plus, I'm very concerned that some of FI's family is going to flip out because I'm Catholic. As a matter of fact I'm the only Catholic on my side of the family too but they're all cool with it. So long story short, even though technically we have our venue, which is outside and even if I can work things out the get married in a Catholic ceremony an outside ceremony is a no-no, so now I don't know what to put on the STDs and invites :/ So i'm having a mini-nervous breakdown! Sorry for the long drawn out meltdown :(
Our friend married a non-catholic. They got married in a catholic church but did not have a full catholic mass. It's possible you just have to chat with your priest.
I'm an April bride but I'm with you too. Church, reception venue, and dj - check. Everything else - nope. Actually the church and venue should only get a half check, no idea on our timing yet.
@LizzieMo: looking at my knot list makes me nervous, I don't have enough checks on it yet
Yay, we've finally picked a venue! Just need to sign a contract.
On the upside, with this late start, places seem a bit more eager for our business and are willing to negotiate a little.
@vmec: True :) I know it's possible I just am unsure of the process we have to go through and if FI will be up for it and how his family will react. I actually think in the end everything will be fine but I'm a worry wart so I always stress out and then it's all ok haha
you guys I dont have a dress, have not ordered one. I am getting really really nervous.
@Aubergold Is there something holding you back from getting a dress? Have you started shopping for one yet and trying styles on?
@Aubergold: Have you gone dress shopping yet? You still have time!
I feel the same way...I'm going to graduate school out West but I'm getting married back home in Nashville, so I've only been able to do a little wedding planning. Right now I have a venue, a photographer, and my dress has been ordered. I'm starting to panic too!
Tooo funny. I decided to pop into Priscilla of Boston today to check out their going out of business sale. I thought maybe I could snag an accessory or two and out i walk with a wedding dress! Melissa Sweet "Lia" (which everyone and their mama has worn, haha) but she is beautiful! So, dress = DONE!
@Aubergold Ha---well congrats! A similar thing happened to me when I found the one. I went by myself to a sample sale w/no intention of actually purchasing a dress and of course, that's when I found my girl "Julianna." Don't you feel like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders? I seriously felt so relieved once I bought my dress :)
@ebet24: thanks!
@cz1789: I know! I was getting afraid. we are just at 7 months and I was afraid I was eventually gonna have to rush order something.
@Aubergold: Congrats, I ended up buying my dress today too! I bought a deal on the sample which was in good shape so I was able to take it home. One more thing off the list! Now it's time to tackle DJ/Bridesmaid dresses.
I keep on plugging away at things, I'm working on the cake and transportation now. All the basics are covered, we have the hotel, I ordered funny bibs (we're having bbq) and I'm looking at favors and starting to think about grooms attire. I would LOVE to get everything done now and not worry, but I know that's not possible. I hate scrambling. I think since I'm in a bigger city there's more of a time crunch- bakeries and everything gets booked up much more in advance!
Less than six months and still no dress! Anyone else in my boat? Starting to worry...

I have a place for people to sit (venue) and I have a photographer.
I have no caterer, no dress, florist, DJ, video, bridesmaid dresses, etc. FI just finalized his groomsmen yesterday.
yeah.......i need to be doing something.
