Hi Bees…Just here to share my sadness.
We e-mailed our photographer yesterday beause it has been 8 weeks from the wedding and we haven’t heard
from him. Well, it turns out that there was an “accident” and the hard drive on which the photos were stored isn’t “responding.” The hard drive has been
sent to a data recovery place.
I am trying to be postive but I am so bummed. I have about 10 guest pictures total. I have NONE of the ceremony, which was in the most beautiful gothic
stone church. I am really hoping that if the pictures aren’t able to be recovered, we can get a full refund.
I just feel so =(.

Oh my god what a nightmare, I really hope they can be restoted. Aren’t they backed up on his computer, or on the little card but that goes in the camera??

Karenina: Oh no!! Well, at least your photographer is trying to recover them and not just telling you you’re SOL! Can you contact your guests and see if anyone has ANY photos of the ceremony? There had to be at least one guest taking photos!

I am so sorry! This sounds like my worst nightmare. i hope he can recover them, or at the very least that your guests got some good pictures!

Usually data doesn’t get lost on the hard drive!! So there is still hope and I am sure you will be just fine! But I understand how nervous you will be until you know! Please keep us updated!!

Thanks all! The problem with guest photos is that we had a very small wedding, so my friends were all standing up with me and the rest were older adults who don’t really use their phones. One of my friends is an amateur photographer, so I have a few photos from her (once she was done being a bridesmaid.)

Karenina: Oh no… Do we have the same photographer?! Jokes aside we are going through the same issue but for our engagement photos. Fingers crossed everything comes out ok for you… Engagement pics are one thing… If I had to deal with this for wedding pics I’d be losing my mind.

Karenina: I’m sending positive thoughts your way. Not a situation you want to deal with. I hope they are recovered!!

I am so sorry. I really hope you can get the photos back.
Can I just say that if the photos were only on a hard drive, the photographer was very unprofessional. Photos need to be backed up (i.e. stored in multiple places). I even do that with my personal photos! The only thing excusable is if the memory card in the camera failed some time between the wedding and the photographer getting to his or her computer, and that would have been obvious within 24 hours. After that – no excuse, no excuse at all.

The great thing about data is that as long as it hasn’t been overwritten, there’s an excellent chance that it can be recovered. Data just doesn’t “vanish.” I’ve recovered precious photos from a hard drive that had been formatted — twice! Data is pretty tough, so keep your fingers crossed.

Karenina: Were the photos on more than one hard drive? Having just one drive and no redundant backup is taking a huge chance. On the bright side, as long as the data was not overwritten your images may well be recoverable. Fingers crossed for you.
