Karenina:  Oh no!! Well, at least your photographer is trying to recover them and not just telling you you’re SOL! Can you contact your guests and see if anyone has ANY photos of the ceremony? There had to be at least one guest taking photos!

Usually data doesn’t get lost on the hard drive!! So there is still hope and I am sure you will be just fine! But I understand how nervous you will be until you know! Please keep us updated!!

Karenina:  Oh no… Do we have the same photographer?!  Jokes aside we are going through the same issue but for our engagement photos. Fingers crossed everything comes out ok for you… Engagement pics are one thing… If I had to deal with this for wedding pics I’d be losing my mind.

Karenina:  I’m sending positive thoughts your way. Not a situation you want to deal with. I hope they are recovered!!

I am so sorry. I really hope you can get the photos back.

Can I just say that if the photos were only on a hard drive, the photographer was very unprofessional. Photos need to be backed up (i.e. stored in multiple places). I even do that with my personal photos! The only thing excusable is if the memory card in the camera failed some time between the wedding and the photographer getting to his or her computer, and that would have been obvious within 24 hours. After that – no excuse, no excuse at all.

The great thing about data is that as long as it hasn’t been overwritten, there’s an excellent chance that it can be recovered. Data just doesn’t “vanish.” I’ve recovered precious photos from a hard drive that had been formatted — twice! Data is pretty tough, so keep your fingers crossed.

Karenina:   Were the photos on more than one hard drive?  Having just one drive and no redundant backup is taking a huge chance.  On the bright side, as long as the data was not overwritten your images may well be recoverable.  Fingers crossed for you.
