I just had to type this out, I was so incredibly touched today.
My husband is not super romantic, at least not in the obvious way. He isn’t one to write cute little love notes, or send flowers. It’s just not his style. He is affectionate when we’re together, and we still have that spark between us even after a decade of being together.
Because I know all too well that my husband isn’t the grand gesture type, I appreciate it when he takes the time to cook, clean and care for our son. That is enough of a turn on to keep our relationship passionate, but sometimes I do wish he’d show up unexpectedly with flowers, or surprise me with a date he’s planned. Those sort of things just never seem to occur to him.
But today something happened that made me realize that I’m not giving my husband enough credit. He always sends me a “Hey, how’s it goin?” text when he’s on his lunch break, but today he sent me this: “The guys here make fun of me because I text you every day at lunch. I don’t care though because you’re my best friend and I love you”. As soon as I read this, I actually got a little choked up. Maybe my husband is romantic after all! I mean, it definitely isn’t the sweep-you-off-your-feet in a fairytale kind of way, but this simple message let me know that just talking to me every day at lunch is worth taking the ridicule at work for. I had no idea they’ve been teasing him almost every day for years about this.
It really made me redefine what romance actually is. Maybe I let Hollywood and all those sappy chick flicks get into my head and create some unrealistic expectation of romance.
Flowers and love notes rock, don’t get me wrong, but somehow this little text just reminded me of what a very lucky girl I really am 🙂
