Here’s my dress. I’ve been busy modifying the straps so i clicked this pic during the alterations. The big bow will go behind.
I need help regarding these points:
1) please tell me what needs to be altered. i keep trying to modify it. So please point out the areas that need some change
2) I want to add a sash to the dress. I’ve gained some belly fat and I’ve lost the 26 inch waist i had when i first tried it on. I guess a sash will help create an illusion of a narrow waist? Also I’m 5’2″ and will be wearing 4 inch heels. Helpppp. Where do i place the sash? and how broad/narrow should it be?
3) There is a lace border at the bottom of the dress. I feel it wont get noticed enough so…I was thinkin of pinning up the lace at the waist. Something like this. Do you think its a good idea?

@futuremrscap: I think that your dress bodice needs to be altered to fit your torso better– it definitely doesn’t look like it fits you as well as it could right now.
I love that you are adding straps! Straps are nice. 🙂
It looks like you are going to need the skirt shortened a bit.
Unless there is a second layer of tulle and lace in the skirt under the top one with the lace edging, I don’t think hitching part of the overskirt up, like in the other picture you posted, will work– you might end up with the satin of the underskirt showing. . . it depends if you like the idea of how that’ll look. Can you post another picture of yourself with the skirt pinned up that way?

@Creiddylad: i don’t think the bodice can be altered anymore. Thats why I wanted to add the sash/belt.
The Straps are for the church ceremony(church rules). It will be strapless for the reception.
Oh and i forgot to mention. I will be wearing a hoop skirt under the dress. So the length of the dress doesnt need any alterations. I’ve tried it on along with my shoes too and its perfect.
There are 5 layers of tulle under the first lace layer+a crinoline+a hoop skirt that has crinoline too. So if i pin up the first layer, there will be many layers of tulle under it.Unfortunately i dont have any pictures of the skirt pinned up. I will be going home in 2 weeks.Thats where the dress is and im in another state.I will take some pictures then.
For now please tell me where do i add the sash and how broad should it be? i was thinking of a simple satin ribbon ivory belt.Something like this?

Please tell me where can i place the sash. natural waist broad sash? a little below natural waist? narrow sash placed a little below the natural waist?
I have added a poll too
This is the natural waist sash
This is a little lower
and this is a narrow sash placed a little below the natural waist

@futuremrscap: With the bow in the back, I don’t think a sash would look right. You’d have the sash bow and the dress’s bow right on top of each other. What does the back of your dress look like? Can it be converted to a corset back? That will bring the waist in more and emphasize your curves. The dress is beautiful, but it’s already got plenty going on. picking up the skirt, adding the sash, it all just seems like too much. It’ll take away from the beauty of the original dress.

@futuremrscap: i too agree if it is possible to add a corset back. but if that is the case ditch moving the bow to the back. if you dont like it in the front ditch it all together. if you are dead set on a sash id say inch and a half in width at natural waist. hope you get your dress all figured out. best of luck. 🙂 keep us updated on what you decide

Personally I would make the neck line a slight v-neck, then add straps that taper away, a little brooch on the side of the hip where the lace on the skirt can be gathered up as you mentioned.

You girls have been so helpfull..thank you so much!!!
@HonoraryNerd: You’re right about the dress having plenty going on. But I really want the lace to be seen and being at the bottom it wont be (wonder why i didnt think of this while purchasing the dress).
@langloiswedding2013: So this is what I’ve decided to do now: Change the back to a corset. After its tied up, the loose ends will be tucked inside the dress. And then I pin up the bow on top of it. Something like this.
@BridalBeckyBee: The brooch on the side of the hip is a great idea 🙂 Im going to try that out
About the sash: I may not need it now. If I happen to try one on I will post the pics and let you guys decide if its required or not.

@futuremrscap: I have a brooch on my dress and it makes my waist look thinner

@futuremrscap: Don’t add a sash. Can you just get some great undergarments to suck you in? I feel like a sash will take away from your dress and not in a nice way.

@futuremrscap: I love that sash! It is beautiful. I think it will look best at your natural waist. 🙂
Glad to hear it has lots of layers of tulle under the top layer, I think pinning up the top layer of the skirt will look great! It will indeed help to showcase the pretty lace edging.
The corset back idea with a big sash you posted later is super pretty!!!
